Just a word of caution...if you own a 93-94 900RR, the swap to a 17" wheel is not recommended. You will have no speedometer hookup.

And if you own a 98-99, you will need to manufacture spacers for the brake discs and on the axle.

But you guys are right, 95-97 is pretty much bolt on, no problem...even the older VFR 17" works too.
For this application, is there any chance a F2 wheel will work? The speedo drives look very similar but have different part numbers. There's a chance you could either just use the 900RR speedo drive on a f2 wheel. If that wont work, you could probably just use the f2 sppedo drive. I can't imagine that the 900rr cable wouldn't screw into it..... There's the possibility that the axel sizes are different though.

Right, not sure about the F2 axle size, but you would be forced to use the F2 brake discs for sure. The hole pattern is away from the axle, whereas the 900 and F3 disc bolts go right around the hub area. I just wouldn't want to find out the hard way if F2 discs don't fit right with 900 calipers. My guess is they are not the same diameter, or thickness.

So much work for so little in return, I think. I have a set of 17' rims sitting in my garage because I bought first without researching. I just assumed the swap would work for all year 900RRs...[&o]

I have a '93 900 and the 17" fromt rim/rotors from the F3. I know this conversion works because I have seen it (back in the 90's) but cant remember how the speedo is hooked up. Since the F3 does not have a sending unit on the wheel what fills the space? Will an F2 speedo sending unit fit the F3 wheel?

I know this is years later from the last post, but I've completed the conversion and (I hope) figured out the rotor issue with using an F3 rim.

I have a 1998 CBR 900rr and converted to an F3 front rim (unsure on what F3 year). I used the F3 rotors and played with the spacers to get the rotors to line up with the calipers.

Here is food for thought on the using the wrong size rotors:

The F3 rotors are 296mm, where the original 900RR is 310mm. The different of 14mm will affect the brake pads. The rotor will only touch all but ~5mm of the brake pad...which means that 5mm of brake pad is not being used...which if you do not watch the pads, that 5mm on each brake pad will eventually touch each other and you will not have any brakes. So, my suggestion if you have the 296mm rotors...check your brake pads frequently!!! And plan to upgrade to 310mm rotors.

I cannot confirm this 100%, but (ready to order a set of EBC Vee Rotors), the 1998 Honda CBR1100xx front rotors are 310mm and 58mm hub with the same bolt pattern. They are 5mm thick where the stock are 3.5mm. There is enough room in the caliper for the 5mm and the rotor hub will not be flush to the wheel hub. Oh, and 1999 Honda CBR1100xx rotors change to (I think) 325mm.

I hope this helps to anyone who sees this post afterwards and completes this conversion; because it's been a pain in the *** for me the past few weeks.
