Well with thanksgiving next week let me say what I am thankful for. I am thankful that I did not get this bike running and the ability to ride it because I would probably be dead now. I was tinkering around today with the calipers (taking them apart for PC and to rebuild them) and realized that the bolts holding them onto their bracket were loose and 1 was missing. So that would not have been good and the rear caliper the pin was cracked and about to break all the way. So I would have had no brakes and would have had some serious front end damage if those calipers came off while riding.

I have a list set up with all of the parts that I have found that I need to replace and I am now over $300 in bolts and gaskets and other misc. items that were either missing, rigged with non OEM parts, or damaged or broken. This bike is a basket case and it is insane the previous owner treated it like this, he is lucky to be alive. And I just realized the fork oil seals are leaking so another thing on my list. I am going to be over $5,000 with this bike and I only paid $1,700 for it. She better treat me right when I finally get to ride her.

That's why I HATE PO's man....

On this 600rr I just bought, this guy stripped every bolt it seems like on the bike. 1 of the subframe mounts - completely stripped. 1 of the motor mounts - completely stripped. 1 of the main tank mounts - completely stripped. And those were just the critical ones...

I'm glad you didn't get caught out at that. Back when I had my F3 - I wasn't really working on my own stuff yet - definitely not the brakes. A shop replaced the fronts for me. Long story short, a few months later, I found out the hard way going 45mph on a 6-lane road in rush hour traffic.

One of the brake pins either broke, or fell out. When I grabbed the brakes, with the pin missing, the pads flipped out and I did not have any brakes - all while in traffic. I didn't go down. But, that **** is scary. I'm really glad you didn't get into trouble by riding that thing.

Wow that sucks, so you feel my pain. Yeah I am not very happy about it but what can I do other than fix it the right way. One bolt missing and another bolt from who knows where and it was too long so washers were used to take up the slack. Nothing is really stripped just a lot of stuff missing or rigged. I mentioned the speaker wire rear turn signals right that were blue in color and not even close to legal. But to the PO's credit he did not cut and splice them in so I still have factory connectors. They abuse them and we make them right.

Stripped down the calipers tonight and they are going to get blasted and PC'd. I will be getting new wave rotors, stainless lines, and EBC pads for front and rear. There was a lot of sludge behind the pistons in pretty much every piston. The seals still look like new, it took a lot of air to pop those pistons out.

As soon as I get the rear wheel off the swingarm everything will be ready for the blaster and powdercoater. I still need to send the top case and pistons out for the machine work but I got some time. I want to be able to order all of my parts before I send the case and pistons out. That way everything should be in my possession before the case and pistons come back from U.S. Chrome.

I wouldn't recommend the ebc pads whit wave discs. Depending offcourse on what manufacturer you are going to use. Whit the oem discs they work fine but wear out pretty quick. I have chinese wave discs and they didn't work whit ebc pads. EBC doesn't guarentee the pads to work whit anything ellse then their own discs. I use Ferodo and been happy whit them.

Brembo, Braking, Galfer and Ferodo are the brands you should look into. They all have pads for the 954. I personally liked the feel and feedback of the Ferodos sintered pads over the ebc:s and they have lasted forever when the ebc:s where allmost done after 5000 kms. And i drift against the front brake so they have been on hard use. Allso get ss-lines if you don't allready have them.

Stainless lines will be added front and back. What is the best fluid to go with for braking. Everything has been completely drained and flushed so I am starting fresh.

I use Motul RF600 but it depends on your riding style. If you don't ride it very hard some less expensive motorcycle brake fluid is as good. I have to change my fluids at spring when i take the bike from winter storage and once during the riding season because of the dragging the front brake when drifting. Allso it takes lot of rear tyres
