Before I do the swap can you tell me what are the real benefits in doing the swap? Are the 1k forks that much better? And if so why? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I probably should get the new seals and get them put back together before I sell mine off though. Did you ship them with or without oil?
The springs are stiffer and linear. That's the main difference. And the feedback on the radial calipers and radial main cylinder is marginally better. Personally i think the 954 brakes have more power. You should check how stiff springs do you need for your weight on the 954. 04-05 1000RR has little lighter springs then 06-07 and it doesn't have the spacer on the radial mounts. Besides that they are the same. If you have your forks apart service them before you put them together so you put on the selling info that they are serviced and checked.

Everything has been washed and cleaned and is ready to be put back together. I just need the new seals and washer for the bottom bolt. The calipers have also been cleaned up and are ready for whichever direction I go.

I am weighing the options and was looking at racetech fork springs and this is what I come up with for my weight from racetech.

FRONT FORK SPRINGS
Recommended Fork Spring Rate: 0.97 kg/mm (use closest available)
Stock Fork Spring Rate: .710 kg/mm(stock)

So the closest available is either .95kg or 1.00kg and since I am in kind of the middle of both I was thinking the 1.00kg would be fine for my weight.

I am still up in the air about selling my forks since I have several hours into them already with cleaning and preparing them for reassembly and the calipers for PC. I may post them up just to see if I can sell them and not have to put anything towards the 06-07 forks and calipers once I get them back together. I really need to stop adding to my budget before I get into deep, but I also want the bike to handle properly and don't want to fight the suspension or dive when braking.

If you have everything apart, you could just get the 1krr fork bottoms. They'd fit your fork legs and then you could run your radial brakes with your racetech internal stuff on the 954 forks...

04-05 1000RR is 0.88kg/mm and 06-07 1.0kg/mm. So the 06-07 forks should be fine. I wouldn't get the 1000RR forks because of the radial brakes. I actually like the brakes in 954 and there is for sure enough power in them. The only reason in my opinnion would be the springs.

So getting the 1.00kg springs from racetech would pretty much be like the 06-07 1K forks but with equal or better braking. I definitely like the bigger rotors on the front and I will not be doing track time so I think that is the route I will go since there is nothing wrong with my forks.

Depends on the use. I have tested 954 whit stiffer öhlins fork springs and in my opinnion the 1000RR forks are still better but the springs improve the 954 forks a lot. If i would have keeped the 954 forks i would have gotten a valve set for it whit the springs. I felt it was easier to change to 1000RR forks. I like allso the 330mm discs that's why the spacers.

If you are going to buy 1000RR forks get the spacers made. They won't cost many dollars and you can use the 330 mm 929/954 discs. And a master cylinder from 1000RR or 600RR. I have 06 1000RR master cylinder.

I checked that master cylinder issue and probably if you get full set whit master and calipers you could use the 1000RR radial cylinder but if you get just the calipers probably worth trying the 954 main cylinder first. The 600RR has pretty similar main cylinder whit the radial calipers and somebody had tryied the 1000RR radial master on it and he hadn't noticed any changes.

Got a new toy today, but this one is for my wife. It is a Polaris Trail Boss 250 which is her first 4-wheeler and her Christmas present. I will get some pics up soon.
