I don't believe going with the 1k forks are going to be something I want to tackle at this time. I am still debating on selling my rims now and getting the rc51's or doing this later on down the line. I am already over $3,500 in parts, mods, and fairings and I still have parts, mods, and paint that have not even been calculated in yet. Once I get the new fairings the tank, under tail, and solo seat will need to be painted to match. There are still a few parts and mods that I need to calculate into my price.

I think once everything is done and the bike is running and working properly I will pick up some rc51 wheels and get them pc'd and polish lipped and swap them over and then sell off my 3 spoke's. If I am still unhappy with the forks I will at the same time look into some 1k's and swap them over.

I am going to start a separate build thread once the bike is nearing completion, before first start up. I will have photos of pretty much everything that has been done in one picture album so it is not several weeks in between updates. I hate anticipation and waiting for builds to progress so I will spare everyone of that. It should be amazing when done though. I will also have some small mods that I will be doing after the major build is done to keep the thread progressing along. I am also getting ready to do some work to the garage to freshen it up before the build that way everything looks that much better. I guess you could say this is the pre build information gathering thread. And everyone has been very helpful, and I thank you for that.

I have owned my 954RR almost 5 years know and it's never finished. I have third paint job in the fairings know, i got fully adjustable clip-ons for it waiting, it has xenons, rearsets, know i'm building the engine. I'm not sure about how my cams will work. If i'm not satisfied whit them i'll take the head off and get new ones grinded, öhlins rear shock, 1000RR front forks and brakes etc. The list would be endless if i try to list everything and still lot of things have come to my mind that i would wan't to do for it after i will get the engine to the frame. The list off aftermarket parts and modifications on the engine alone would be very long. If ever comes a moment when nothing comes to mind what i could change/modify on the bike i will probably sell it and get a new project

HAHAHAHA I can't agree with this enough. I've had 2 954's over the last 5 years - and they've always been in some sort of stage of modification. One was a mild rebuild - but still it was off the road for a couple of months while I rebuilt the motor, swapped fairings, and put some mods on it.

However, the fighter - that bike has been apart more times than I can count. Not because anything is "wrong" with the bike - only because I wanted to change something. And to be honest, I thought I would have been done this fall. It's December - and I'm not even close...

I thought I had my motor done - now I'm going to build a head for it.

And the other day - I saw a sweet fighter with a small bottle of nitrous on it (the wheels in my head are turning).

I have changed my mind on the tail I'm going to use about 5 times now... and I'm thinking about changing again. My ideas on the tank have also changed multiple times (althought I think I finally have that down). I bought this super rare dirty bar set up, and now I'm starting to change my mind on that. I've thought about a broom stick vs drag bars...

When you pretty much have to replace everything the PO screwed up or was not on the bike it definitely adds up. Plus all of the mods and me being a perfectionist does not help. I probably have another $400 to add to that list. That will get it to a happy place for me then I will look into doing the wheel swap and possibly a fork swap.

Hey man, it's YOUR bike - it should be an obsession. Mine's an obsession to me too. I know Mika's is to him as well. We have to have hobbies.

But when you're ready for the fork swap - there's no problems. I would suggest selling your 330 rotors and swapping in 320's - especially if you go with RC rims (you'll be able to see a little more of them and it'll be easier to fill up the tire with air). Sell your calipers - buy 600rr calipers (they're the exact same as 1000rr calipers, but usually sell for less for some reason****) and then you should be able to get the forks bought for what you sell yours for. If yours are really nice - you may even get more for yours (I did). Axles, spacers, clip-ons, brake lines, everything works.

A radial M/C would be cool (I'm getting an R1 radial Brembo M/C for my bike), but it's not a must - especially if you're on a budget.

I really look forward to seeing your bike take shape!

Okay so I am really thinking about switching over to the 06-07 1k fork tubes. I think I can get the tubes and calipers for around $300 and sell mine for about the same price so that is fine. I am also getting new rotors, pads, and SS lines anyways so that is fine.

Before I do the swap can you tell me what are the real benefits in doing the swap? Are the 1k forks that much better? And if so why? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I probably should get the new seals and get them put back together before I sell mine off though. Did you ship them with or without oil?
