I dont have the skills to do the same on my Hurricane, I need help and so I will need pay for that help.

You already said you are over budget on that work, and I have that fear. Some months ago I decided change my bike, probably a Yamaha R6 99-01 or 02-04, in my country Honda's are very over price compare with same year on Yamaha or Suzuki.
I need a modern look on my bike, and I can't do that conversion alone.

Don't give up, in the end your bike will be exposed in several events, that's for sure.

When I started on this bike it was just a fun project. It took on a life of it's own and as I said became a labor of love because you really have to question whether it's worth all time and cost. I bought the GS500 with 92 miles on it for half of what I have into this build. It's why the other ones will just be painted and road worthy...not sure it makes sense to put so much into an old bike...maybe I'll change my mind when it's done.

I'm really happy with the VHT frame paint too. It has held up extremely well to "oops, dropped the tank a little too hard" and those moments when you are fitting one end of some part to the bike and suddenly realize the other end of it was rubbing the frame while you were wiggling it into position. I also had a couple spots under the subframe where the spray was a bit light and it took a second coat a few days later very well.

Rubber edging on the tank is a great idea! The stock rubber blocks leave quite a gap and it has always bugged me. In my case it might also cover somer puckers in the vinyl wrap that seem intractable.

I know that feeling.

In 2012 my wife had an accident with my Honda Civic 92, oil on road, the front and back left got ugly.
The cost to repaired was more that buy another Civic, but is my first car when I had 18 (today I have 30), never had problems with this car so I decided repair it. I found all parts on Internet, in 2013 it goes to workshop put all pieces together again. When work was done I start ask prices for paintjob, they are absurde like 1100€ (+/- USD 1500).
It was too much for me, so I decided paint the car my self (total paint cost USD 70) and I take a year to complete all car, because I do more things on it like put soundproofing inside. The project take so long but I couldn't stop and finally I ended my Civic project.

I don't have yet a photo with car finished
Note: I didn't paint the hood, I can't do anymore. For now!!!

Be strong to finish that project, you deserve ride on that Hurricane.

If you can do all that great work on your car you can do your bike.

The bike is looking great Dennis! I thought you had swapped over the RR swingarm for a second until I realized it was the splash/chain guard painted the same color

I've spent more than my bikes are worth on probably all 3, and a frame up rebuild on the CBR so I guess I can join the crazy club too While I might not be able to recoup all of the money invested into them I still feel it was completely worth it when they are finished. Especially in the case of your RR bike, I doubt that there exists another one like it. Hard to put a price on personal satisfaction and accomplishing something unique.

Yes it's a trick. I came up with the idea to use a modified F2 hugger and chain guard to get a more "RR" look to the back...dang it almost fooled you

I hear you. That is what my girlfriend keeps telling me. This one was my therapy bike and the first one I bought when I got back into motorcycles so I have a soft spot for it. Funny, the "RR" conversion came about because I could't find original Hurricane plastics. Now I have multiple sets because I kept buying more bikes and parts...I am a Hurricane Hoarder for sure. It will be fun to put a stock Hurricane together and park them side by side

I couldn't get to the shop this weekend so I am prepping engine parts because I will hopefully be installing the engine next weekend.


Here's the finished side covers. Thanks DocB for the paint choice...looks really good.

Looking great! I'm just back from a few weeks away on work related stuff. I need to spend some time figuring out where I left off. Seems like there are bike parts everywhere. I think refining the plumbing and reservoir mounting for the Fox shock is next and then it's time to put on the exhaust system.

You have me thinking a bit about how much I have spent on the project so far:
rough 1990 CBR600F $450
2003 CBR600RR fairings $400
tires $225
undented tank $80
chain and sprockets $120
clipons and levers $100
Vinyl wrap $100
Paint $120
Fox shock and rebuild kit $135
seats $75
and I dunno, maybe another four/five hundred in other bits and pieces?

I guess if I can keep it under what a nice 2003 600RR would cost the project is almost rational.

OK, probably not. But I'm having a lot of fun.

I lost track a long time ago. On the Norton I have a spread sheet...it's up to $7000...but usually it takes over $10K to do one right...they are worth quite a bit when done, so that one is easy to deal with.


I have bought so many CBR parts that I really don't have a clue anymore. I know I have at least $3K in it. A lot of brand new parts going on the RR. Plus I bought 4 more bikes and parts for them all...I think I will have 3 of them once I'm done.


I sort of went crazy on Hurricane plastics...bought a bunch of pieces just because they are hard to find and got good deals. 4 sets of front fairings that had all the lights and windshields in them. Two are very nice condition. One needed a small repair and one is a fiberglass aftermarket. The next bike will be a Hurricane and I have all of the parts.


Like you said it is really the fun of doing it...and trying to do something special. I feel like this bike will be so nice I will want to keep it.


I was going to say, I bought stainless cap screws for the side covers so they should look slick once I get them on there...
