[QUOTE=thedrewski86;1221647]Hey Boru, right on! I installed my new Oxford heated grips today. They went on quick, direct power from the battery for now but I plan to wire a relay soon. Took it out real quick and my palms definitely stay warm, I wish my fingers were warmer though.
I also got some new NGK iridiums today so I threw those on; what an improvement! It's a lot smoother on acceleration now. I hope my cold starting woes improve with this too.

Might I ask where you got your heated grip and how much? I've thought about getting some myself.
I've been trying to sort out my cold start issues for ever. Iridiums, stick coil conversion, even replaced the igniter. No improvement. I'm pretty much convinced its just a problem with carb bikes.
I'm speaking of 25F starts btw. Above 40 it's a non issue

I got the grips off ebay, they were the Oxford sport grips, $65 US delivered. I'm getting used to them, they seem to keep my palms warm but my fingers are the problem. You have to grip them to get warm fingers but I don't like doing the deathgrip! It's tiring and I usually rest my fingers on the clutch lever anyway.

My cold starting is the same. I started it up this am around 21 degrees F and it took a good 6-7 tries. No improvement on starting but it does run better. I feel like it's fuel starved on initial startup. My choke is functioning and I even cover the air intakes w/ my hand but it doesn't help. This thing needs a primer or something. I don't think it's a carb-specific thing either, my '95 carb'd Honda VT1100 always fired right up in the cold.

With spring coming on quick up here in NW Montana, I'll be taking my baby out of her storage shed here in the next week or so. I ordered a good pair of windproof Alpinestars gloves, also. Can't wait to get back on the road again!

Got a new front tire - Michelin Pilot Raod 3 120/70 x 17 - installed and a new Mechanically Locking 90* Valve Stem.
Sure is a heck of lot better riding than with a bald/flat tire w/torn valve stem.
Having not performed this task prior to yesterday's ride cost me $40 for fuel in my brother's truck and 2 expensive beers at the bar.

Unhappy New bits

Well, the old girl failed the MOT :-(

Cracked front disc - something I have never seen before
Headlight main beam switch sticking due to lack of use

New wavy discs fitted yesterday - rest on hold due to ****ty English weather. Did an oil and filter change while i was at it.

Mark 3 fuel sender put into my 1990 MK2 (new o-ring required for this mod)

Now I can actually figure out how much juice is left in the tank

Used to read empty with 2 gals left in there - not anymore

So Mk3 fuel sender recommended as a replacement in the Mk2

Good bit of info there for us '90 owners! I'll be looking into that.
Meanwhile mine saw 7k yesterday for the first time w me on it! (Don't make fun, still working my way through the old girl). Also got a knee pretty far out on her yesterday and she held great, no knee pucks so that's as far as I pushed it.

Thanks for the tip Sprock. I always fill up at the red line even tho it only takes 3 gallons. May have to try out the Mk3 sender.
