A few Questions before I do this guys.

1. What Stick coils will fit my 88CBR1000F and Seal? I see no reason to mod for the plug caps seal if I can find ones that seal as everything I've read puts them all in the same resistance category. Or am I wrong here? A list to choose from will be very helpful as I will have to scoure Flebay (Missed a set a few days ago but i think i would have had to mod the caps anyway). From what I can gleam from Google it looks like the gsx will fit and seal?

2. Has anyone done the relay mod with this and does the CBR suffer from weak ignition voltage? I.E. should I do this mod at the same time?

Well that's all I can think of for now. BTW if anyone wants to link the perfect stick/harness for the swap That of course would be a great help (I'm in RI).

Thx in advance guys.

What relay do you speak of?

I think the old coils are good enough for regular fuel but the ethanol added theses days needs a hotter spark to light it off. I think the factory coils are dated and need to be upgraded for the modern fuel.

As far as to what sticks fit, we don't know until member report in as to what they have tried. That's why we are making our own caps.

I think the relay mod, is a OEM coil relay mod that I have seen on a Katana riders forum.

Coil Relay Mod - KatRiders.com

The relay is fitted, as I understand it to provide a higher voltage to the coil which then translates to more voltage at the plugs.

A different mod to this entirely, I believe, as we are removing the OEM CBR1000F coil packs.

Cheers, SB

My only addon to this was Splitfire Plugs - new old stock - always gave a cracking
big spark on every motor I ever had - but you have to search far and wide these
days to find them Splitfire # SF 416B

I got 8 from a Guy in Baltimore last week on CL - search still lists on Google ! but

This is a good write up on the relay mod, Basically gives direct voltage from the battery to the coils. Figured I should do both at the same time?

[Edit- can't get this next sentence to space]
So no one knows if the cbr1000f has the same plug depth as other newer bikes with sticks? How could I go about finding this. I think I saw some RR's that had gsx fit. Does the F and the RR have the same depth?

Ahh got it (No-script was blocking some java)

The Wired George article was written in 2007. I get the impression that this might have been the go-to modification before COP mods became the way to go. Still, it shows merit vis-a-vis more voltage in the LT wiring before the coils.

Should it be considered in conjunction to the Stick coil mod?

Interesting for it's time - getting spark a plenty with the "current" upgrade

I suppose you could go for it but me thinks I'll run with these setups for now anyhow.

The more I think about it, the more I like just doing the coil upgrade. It actually removes and improves a couple of aging, potential points of failure. I think doing the relay mod would be adding a potential point of failure without gaining all that much by it

Going back to Hueristic's other question. I saw the RR thread where they say the Gixxer coils will seal themselves. Sebastion (the resident coil guru) has answered the the Suzuki coils have the depth needed for a 1000f. I also think he demonstrated his mod in the how-to using non CBR1000 coils, which I think (and he'll have to confirm) are the shorter type of the coil Honda uses. Suzuki used the same coil on all the GSX-R's regardless of displacement

I live and ride in a rainy locale. I definitely feel the need for proper sealing using one of the methods described here.
