I test drived a 2001 600 F4i and was quite impressed,,but it has 24k miles,,is that so bad? Also while it was in nutral and i reved it, as soon as it reached around 4000 rpm it made a weird rattling noise near the right side(very distinct,,not loud at all),,,and i was told that it was a certain spring thats meant to hold the timing chain tight, and went loose, and that its a common problem of this model! Is that true? I'll appreciate any feedback since i really am interested in buying it! Thanks.

 

cam chain tensioner is a very common problem with the cbr 600 f4i. i replaced mine one thousand miles ago, i only have 16000 on my bike. its a great bike so if you are getting it from a dealer get them to fix it before you buy it because it was a pain to replace due to the location of the c.c.t. i also hear a manual tensioner is the way to go.

not sure if it will decrease the power because i changed mine within a week of that annoying rattle....

 

I believe you should only hear the cam chain tensioner problem when the bike is in gear or under load. So, if you are hearing something when in neutral it might be something else.
