Must say it has been awhile since I posted in my own thread. Life gets int he way sometimes. New job, all the usually boo hooing, plus, well, I've just been lazy and the weather hasn't helped lol. Anyway, My trans developed the second gear issue that is so common. I was going to just swap motors but came across a trans on ebay for 35 bucks shipped. I waste that much at a gas station and come out with a pack of smokes and a drink, no gas, so figured why not. I recieved this awhile ago and it was sitting in the room. Of course when I got it I inspected the hell outta it. I was very surprised. Honeslty looks brand newish. No evience of wear anywhere. Forks are perfect, all the dogs on all the gears are perfect. Apparently, this is from the seller, the guy paid to have it rebuilt from dealership and totaled it out a few days later. Dunno if I believe him, but looking at the condition of the trans I'd say its a possibility. Anyways, heres pics. This is my sunday project. Ill post pics and the walk through here, for those thats interested. May make a tech thread, depends lol

Well, I got the engine out Sunday, then got lazy and called it a day. Well, not really, went to the beach Anyway, noticed it needs a cleaning very much bad. That will be done this week

So cleaning and painting, aside from changing the transmission out and replacing all the gaskets.

Today I decided to throw the lowering link on it, swingarm and tire so i could move it. Need to clean the frame and all, rewire and sand and paint the frame. Going with a satin black for the frame. Gave her a bath now time to tear her down again.

The bike is low. I can flat foot both feet. Not too sure I'm gonna like it. I laid the stock dogbone next to their "engineered" dogbone, or square tubing, damn tubing was one inch shorter then the stock dogbone. So, going from the tubing to a one inch drop from stock is going to be an adjustment. oh well, we shall see. Need to chop the can too while its off. well, back to work

Well, finally got around to starting the tear down. Stopped due to missing tools
Anyway, found some issues..... first is this.

I have no idea how to fix this. It has always started no issues, no noise, just push a button and go. Maybe I wont fix it, but that will aggravate me knowing its there.

All covers off, main stuff taken care of. Next issue, I broke the friggin clutch basket
Got pissed and just left it for the day. Guess I'll grab a new one of those too.... wonder what this will cost me crap.

That sucks, Gary... not the start you want when beginning a teardown!

No, no it's not. Someone decided they needed my electric impact more then I did and decided to liberate it from me. I hope they use it in a mud puddle.... Just sayin. So now, I'm looking for a clutch basket. Not too bad on eBay but still. I also have no clue how to fix the boss that the mid gear for the starter and flywheel goes into. That was previously broke.

On another note, it has had the clutch replaced. And there are no metal chunks so apparently they got those out too. From visual inspection the chains and gear surfaces I can see and touch are all good. Plastic timing guides are good. I'm hoping this is the worst. If not, hell, I might as well swap engines for a 900 ha! Seriously tho, any ideas on the boss and how to fix it or if I should? Welders around here are crap with aluminum.

you sir, have my favorite thread on rebuilding the bike. i too, bought a 94 f2, that was in pretty bad shape. it is currently sitting on a side street away from my house because i put too much sea foam in there. (stupid mistake) but I too am planning on getting her going soon with new brakes, sprockets, levers, electrical, shocks, forks the whole shabang. good luck on your project. i will read the whole thing when i get a chance

heres my project

needs new front tire also from dry rot. for some reason the brake lights dont work, will have to check all that out. it too has 36k miles. runs well, but not gonna push it as much as i did my other bikes lol. like i said good luck on your project, judging by the work you already put in it, itll look great

Thabk you. I love the f2s it's the bike I learned to ride on way back when, so they have a special place in my heart. Nice bike you have. My advice is just take your time, do it right the first go round. Even if it unfortunately means waiting a bit longer. It'll be worth it in the end.
