yesterday balanced carbs , nr 3 is difficult to access due to the throttle cable stay choke linkage in the way
also did the tappets as occasionally spitting back on nr 2 and idle a bit lumpy
they had been done ( very wrongly most set too tight ) by a honda dealer after changing the alt damper
so moral of the story is to do it right do it yourself
now idle is smooth and it starts on a 1/4 turn
also got 2 pce 2nd hand front caliper from the states for usd20 plus usd 40 shipping each and rebuilt them both with new seals
a lot of alu salts in the nr 1 dust seal ring to be removed with a pick
god a lhs exhaust coming from germany eur 70 in good condition as mine is rotting out from the inside ( ill try to re weld it later on )
got those rocker cover oring seals coming from japan
also learned that aftermarket main brake seals dont fit they are too thick and you cant get the pistons in without undue force
from now on i only will use honda or nissin seals
now just need to retouch the swing arm due to surface rust , ill use silver hammerite as it will better resist the road shrapnel and is fairly hidden from view
can someone let me know how to post pics????
now fitting the krause carrier and panniers and off for some summer touring

Hey Paul,
You should be able to post pics with that little image button when you're composing a post. Should look like a mountain with a sun etc etc

Here's a screencap:

Let us know if you have any more trouble

thanks for the heads up ill see if i can do it
yesterday wend to germany to collect 2 silencers : mufflers from a guy in hagen
i got them on ebay auction for 10 eur
they are in fact rather good with a little surface rust and pain damage on the rhs one and the lhs one can be used mostly as it is
i stripped the rhs one to bare metal and will repaint in the next days the lhs one will just have touchup paint
they are black bit instead of silver but can fit with the black and red colour scheme of the bike
i also managed to buy a rather rare cam chain tensioner new in the box for 110 eur ( new price at honda 278 eur )
this is part of the reserve i am building up to keep her running for the longer run
ordered some original honda nissin brake seals also for a fairly reasonable price
i had tried the aftermarket seals but they dont fit ( too thick ) so the pistons dont go in
still trying to find a few sets of rare nissin original pads , found some on the bay in uk but the postage is diabolical expensive
ill have to see how to get them

Well.... 2 big end bearings down and like, uhhmm, the whole rest of an engine overhaul i decided in the midst of a fever dream to undertake to go. I don't think i mentioned that this is the first time I've been below a cylinder head on anything ever and that I have no idea what i'm doing? Apologies, I left myself out of the loop there too. this is murder lol.

You never forget your first. I almost envy you

Don't rush it, and don't lose parts. Stick to the manual and you'll have a decent chance of success

Good luck!

Just got mine demothballed last Saturday, tire pressures, chain tension, quick ride to scare myself, etc. Made progress with the plastics, using the Polyvance plastifix as it actually makes pieces broken off and fills in huge cracks & breaks. Two more panels on the bottom that have serious road scuffs from coming off while riding, then decal removal. So far it's the only snake oil type stuff I've bought that actually worked - I reformed a missing side cover corner to my 650 a couple months ago and actually made the peg that pops into the grommet on the frame.

So I may have some clothes on the 'ol girl by the end of the month
