What have you done to your CBR 1000f today?
It must be the season for front end fettling on the venerable CBR1000F.
Knackies' '92 had a leaky left fork seal, notchy steering and a few other minor irritations, so being a weekend that promised rain, rain and more rain we decided to set to and do a bit of hard yakka on his bike.

Bike stripped down and new tapered bearings fitted to the steering head.

Forks stripped, bottom sections repainted and new seals fitted.

Took the opportunity to fit new plugs and clean up ALL the electrical circuits on the bike. This to eliminate (hopefully) an intermittent starting problem.

New wheel bearings in the front wheel.

Test start and it all seems good!

Fit up the rear section where we had JB welded various sections back together - broken tabs etc.

And back on the road.
Knackie reported after his ride home that the front end has been transformed.
Job done!
Cheers, SB

Carby bowls leaking really bad all of a sudden, so removed and used sealant on them. All fixed and no smell of petrol now.
Also stopped the leaking fuel tap as well, for now anyway! lol

As long as it was not a silicone based sealant but rather an anaerobic type you should be good. Silicone based ones eventually breakdown and the leaks resume.
Thanks Sprock, I used a sealer after reading a thread on here and it's suitable for carbs. I did notice one of the carbs is weeping very slightly but I think it was a bad job by me!! lol
Hah, man should I even have questioned it
, still a good reminder for members as I have seen people use the wrong stuff many times and let me tell ya - what a mess

I was looking on line for a sealer that would work on carbs and it picked up a thread on here. Probably yours!! :-) lol Always worth mentioning.

I got my old girl running yesterday after she's been sitting in the garage since last June. A new set of bowl gaskets for the carbs and new pilot jets for the hell of it. She fired right up so that's a relief. There's a lovely little company in Manchester which manufactures the gaskets and various other parts for Keihin carbs. So much cheaper than going to Honda, or anyone else for that matter. NRP motorcycle carburettor repair specialist
Now I'm getting to grips with fitting the keyless ignition system (which is meant for a car) so there are a few modifications to overcome. Once I've got it finished I'll stick a thread up for anyone else who is thinking about this. It'll be nice not to have to fumble for the key any more, or even have think about it.
Next job, fit the tracker. An interesting challenge, if you like that sort of thing.
My post-surgery healing is almost done. Can't wait to get two wheels underneath me again.

Yeah, congrats on the 100K clicks Robbie. Always a moment to tip a beer or two and look forward to the next 100.
Those big pistons of yours won't be nearly run in yet Jarvid. Still got the flames coming out the back? Good to hear from you.
I just worked out a way to fool the PKE system that my bike has doors. Just one of the problems of installing electronics designed for a car. Sigh!
2nd problem is to make it all waterproof but I'll get there soon enough. Can hardly wait to forget my keys.
