There a product called Label and Sticker remover the sell at advanced that will take the residue of in a sec, and help the decals come off as well. Thats what I use when I do vinyl for people.

Hopefully your tank decals aren't under the clear coat like they are on the F4i. Lame.

IMO- Goo-gone is basically mineral spirits with some weird aroma. I just use mineral spirits (paint thinner), NOT lacquer thinner, to remove any left-over adheasive after heating and removing any labels.
