Since there are many experts here, how safe is online banking guys? Kinda worried too!
Nothing on the net is 100% safe but I*ve been online banking and investing over a decade and I consider it very safe. Most banking/stock/mutual fund sites invest WAY more money in security technology than average sites e-commerce sites like ebay and paypal. That plus the FDIC insuring your money on banking sites should put your mind at ease. For example, with etrade, I use a digital security ID that randomly changes the code each time I log in.

What about banking...from your cell phone? I've seen that advertised and don't think I would want to.

I don*t know about that one voodoo since I don*t do it so I*ll let someone with experience answer that but generally speaking I like to wait for the security to catch up with the technology before I do it .. phone banking is still a bit new for my tastes and I don*t want to be the guinea pig.

The problem with managing funds online is not with the protocols and applications themselves, most of the time, but it is with the users. I think ATMs are pretty secure, until the user gives out their PIN number or uses something dumb like the last 4 of their social. A system will only ever be as secure as the users operating it. I have accessed my bank account from my phone while at an airport. When using a device like that, my bank requires additional verification methods.

Oh man. My bad. I dont know how that happened. Didnt think I was digging that deep. Sorry about that.

Doog, I didn*t intend it to sound like I didn*t want the thread revived .. sorry if it came off that way. I just meant that since you revived it I had additional input as well.

p.s. rrasco, I don*t know paypal*s policy even though I use them so you may be right, which is why I wrote "Most". But I do know many sites I deal with (esp. banking sites) have it clearly written on their sites that they will never contact you via email regarding anything to do with personal info.
No offense taken at all bro. I just never want to be the guy beating the dead horse.
