this whole thing was a joke... the security caused more problems than the kid.... with all the eyes on them anything could have gone wrong.. over what a question? I think the kid was one of those punks that was eating the attention but at the same time they all could have handled it better... I may not like what our government does in some cases but I have enough common sense that there is a time and place for such things.

 

Before I even watchthe videos (already heard/read the headlines), I'm going to say something...

There is a difference between taking part in thought provoking conversation and presenting yourself like a complete ******* in the name of, "free speech."

Give me a break, you guys have to be smarter than this... now excuse me while I watch the videos in the provided links.

He was being a complete jackass. He had no tact. He presented himself with hostility and vulgarity. He was just like the kid running around inciting cops with a camera in his car; he was looking for a reaction and he got it. Unfortunately for him he was on the short end of the proverbial stick.

I fail to see how this video in any way brings into question the first amendment. He did not get arrested for speaking out. He was being escorted out for loud and boisterous behavior. He was then arrested forthe subsequent resisting and then tazed for failure to comply...

Am I really having to explain this to adults?

If you have a presidential candidate come to your home and speak, is it absurd that you might do everything in your power to ensure they might come back when they are president? That they are not subject to the questions/actions of those people who aren't even capable of making a valid point without cursing, slandering, etc.? I didn't hear Kerry cursing at the audience, why should he be subject to that punks filthy mouth in a public forum?

We are raising a nation full of twinkle-toes (don't remember where I heard that but it's relelvant). No one can say anything without imposing on at least 4 Constitutional rights anymore.

If you have something to say, say it with intelligence lest you be written off as just aother fool...

 

yeah, i will chime in a bit here since i read a lot of about free speech and deal with the law (not that it makes me any more qualified to talk about it, but it interests me quite a bit)....

i didn't read the stories or watch the videos, i did however see the news about this and saw a short clip on there about it....my understanding is this guy is known for doing outlandish stuff like this, filiming it, and putting it on HIS website....unfortunately..."internet celebrities" are getting out of hand and every wannabe is trying to become one...

now, i completely agree with the fact that our free speech is getting truncated day after day, however, it does not seem to me, that this is a good example to key in on....where someone is making an HONEST attempt to solicit information or start a discussion and it is thwarted merely for the sake of its content, that is plain wrong, however, going somewhere to incite a scene in order to further your own agenda is no better than the abridging of free speech in the previous context....

doing what he did, using the cloak of 'free speech' in order to gain publicity is just as bad, if not worse, in damaging free speech....he is attempting to contort the freedoms we have in order to further his own personal agenda that has nothing to do with reasons behind free speech....some may argue that is HIS right under free speech, and you may be right.....however, looking from that perspective...the damage that can be done by people doing this is immense...imagine if at every debate, the whole thing could be turned into a circus through people aiming to only gain celebrity status by being an ***, nothing would get done....

i just feel that in some cases, and i stress SOME, the reason or motivation behind what is being done needs to be examined....was it an expression, was it in opposition to the status quo, was it furthering a legitimate concern where your speech should not be interrupted.....if it was done merely to make a spectacle of someone else or of themselves for mere personal selfish reasons, i believe steps need to be taken....this is why we have disturbing the peace ordinances and the like....

freedom of speech does not give you carblanche to do whatever and say whatever whenever....it merely allows you to say those things when given the opportunity....that being said, this was not an opportunity for this guy in the correct sense....make an *** of yourself somewhere else....

all this being said, i do believe the police were a little excessive....but he was in a sense begging for it as he was screaming "don't tazer me"....that is EXACTLY what he wanted so as to do exactly what he has done, which is becoming a brief internet/TV celebrity....

I agree that he was being obnoxious and resisting arrest, the point of it is though that the cops had no right to escort him away from the podium. He finished his three questions (even though they were a bit absured) and then the cops tried to lead him away. That is the part I think was wrong, all the subsequent events although I think were a bit extreme I can sort of understand, but they still had no reason to usher him out in the first place.

 

In this particular case, I did not watch the video but I did see all the stories on it a few days ago. I don't agree with this kids way of accomplishing things, but in today in age it does take controversy to make change. Someone commented on this countrie's history, when have we had real change without civil disobedience or controversy? people do need to wake up and get angry at the injustices that are continuing on a day to day basis. this country has been hijacked, like it or not, this is the truth. get f*cking enraged, i know i am. more recently in news....not to threadjack, but related.....

I feel that we are loosing our freedoms more and more each day. It's going to be a sad future for the next few generations IMO I'm in no hurry to die, but I'm gald I will not be around for the worst part.
