also note that in many instances, an ins co will total a bike for what basically amounts to plastics damage.
there are a lot of straight-frame salvage title bikes out there, that are ok to ride, but it's not easy figuring out which is which, esp for a new rider.

Regarding the 600RR, my experience that when you have plastic damage on that bike...it's totaled. It may be 100% mechanical OK, but it's the way it works. Best recommendation is to get it to a shop that does state inspections and have them look it over. Tell them the situation and they should find any problems before you committ. Worse case scenario, you forfeit the money for the inspection. That's what I'd do for a $3,000 RR. Peace.
