Unhappy Not salvaged but it was in a wreck..

Whats up guys, I just bought a new/used bike yesterday. It is a 09 cbr600rr phoenix edition with 2400 miles. Absolutely LOVE it! Drove 200 miles to get it and tried to inspect it the best I could. Checked the carfax(vinfax) everything was clear, also checked with the DMV everything was all good. Drove it 200 miles and it ran and handles great! Did some maintenance on it today and unfortunately, after removing all the fairings, I noticed it had been in a wreck. It had a scrape on the frame(no dent) and looked like the dash was rebuilt. Having a little anxiety about the purchase now. I'm an honest guy so in the future when I sell it, I will be upfront about what I discovered. My question is, if a bike is in a wreck that lets say cost $1500 to fix, is it close to the same as a salvaged bike? Thanks for any feedback ..

Post a pic of the scrape and the dash. I doubt the bike went down simply because of the fairings.

I can't think of a way to damage the frame under the fairings and not the fairings. Theose are either the best damn copy of OEM fairings I've ever seen or they are genuine OEM fairings. And oem Phoenix fairings would cost more than feasible to disguise a wreck imo. Depnding on the cash you paid of course.

Possible alternative is a drop with the fairings off during maintenance.

Yeah, it was definitely wrecked. There was also scrapes on some black grill/amp looking component that is attached to the frame and the right head light housing was being screwed in with a wood screw:/ There was dirt/gravel in the right headlight. Also there was a bolt on the left side that was scraped. The scrape is on the frame. My buddy took some pictures of it, Ill try to post them tonight.

If it handles and runs fine and has no obvious frame cracks, I'd say you are ok. I bought my F3 with a frame bend. Just a matter of pulling it out and putting a new engine bolt in. I'm the Mr fix it type though.

Could be something as simple as it fell over while he was working on it... Or he coulda lowsided the bike with no fairings and the frame sliders ate most the damage

So I called the seller today and confronted him on not disclosing that the bike was in a wreck. He acted like he didn't know and was shocked. BS I know, but he was mysteriously able to get a hold of the person who wrecked it. I believe it was his wife who wrecked it. Anyways, he said the wreck happened going 10-15 mph and all that was damaged was the fairings, clutch cover on the left side, and the headlights. He said the forks, brakes, rotors were fine. I believe him because the bolts are not damaged and still have the factory white dots on them. So I asked him if he could lower the price for me since he did not disclose the wreck. He said he would give me back $200. I asked for a little more and he told me, according to CA law, he didn't have to give me back any money but he was feeling nice. Can you guys please review the pics posted and let me know what a fair California price on this bike would be? It has 2300 miles and a clean title. Everything else is in excellent condition.

Also it looks like there was a sealed hole on the header and can anyone tell me what the red stuff is around the clutch cover gasket.

Thanks

The red stuff your looking at is RTV... Ugly and cheap way to make a gasket but it works... From the damage in the pictures I would say between 2-300 is perfectly reasonable knock off... You honestly are lucky the guy is willing to kick you back 200 at all... Once you remove the bike from his possession it falls on you and whats stopping him from saying you checked out the bike and did the damage yourself... One of those cases imo to bite the bullet

Nothing to worry about with the RTV unless you have leaks which it looks like you dont so he did a decent job with it... Ive got it on almost every bolt and screw on my dirt bike... Keeps it from rusting while sitting outside
