Default How to Repair Scratch Gas Tank?

I have one deep scratch on the fuel tank of my '04 CBR1000RR (Honda calls it the "top shelter").

Has anyone ever repaired deep scratches on this cover, or is there a professional service that can blend the scratch? It is below the color layer.

Thanks!

if the scratch is to the base coat, then repainting is needed. wheeling out/buffing the scratch will do nothing cause its too deep. UNLESS the scratch is really thin, then wheeling out/buffing might work. using touch-up paint will only make it worse. it will look like a scar on top of the paint. then you need to wet sand smooth and buff out.
i deal with this everyday at work. if you can, throw up a detailed pic of the scratch. also, if you take a pic, place a coin or something for a size reference next to the scratch. i might be able to tell what would be the best method for fixing this.

Thanks for your opinion. You are 100% correct ... the scratch is to the base coat, and is about 1/8 inch wide X 2 inches long. Probably about 1/64th deep, likely less.

I will try to post a photo later this week, but I agree, a repaint is likely in order. Or, buy a new tank cover from Honda for about $300.
