Tire question
Yeah I think we all know guys who have fixed tires and had no problems with them, BUT if you take that route everytime you get on the freeway or get into a nice turn your going to be thinking about that patch / plug! For me just not having that hanging over my head everytime I ride is worth the cost of a new tire! I feel your pain to have to toss a brand new tire, that sucks! (you could sell it toa stunter, not like they care much about safety anyway)
I have ran on a patched tire for 5000 miles now and I haven't had one problem. Brand new tire with less than 10 miles on it picked up a staple so we patched it and I went to replace but the tire salesman it was a solid patch so not to worry about it... i took it 176 just yesterday, and that patch was put in 5000 miles ago... patching a tire is perfectly safe... if you can replace it by all means do so, but if you can't then just make sure it isn't leaking air at all by spraying it with water... no bubbles equals good patch.
Perfectly safe my ***. A patch are a whole for that matter is a weak point in the tire and compromises the integrity of the tire itself. Sure a patch may hold for some time but if you hit a rock or bump the wrong way next to that patch, watch our because whats going to happen next isn't pretty. I'll spend the money on a new tire because the tires are the only thing that keeps the bike on the ground. Worst case senario go get a good take off tire and run that until you can afford a new one. Its not worth risking your life because your a cheap *** or broke.
I appreciate all the feedback. The new tire arrived today. I agree with many of you who would not chance it. I got a family, man!! I probably wont get it mounted until I get the Chrome rims put on. Should be in the next 3 weeks. In the mean time, my riding will be gentle.
