I was just about to post on that - since good maintenance is the key to optimum life from ANY chain and sprockets.
When I clean everything, I get the chain good and warmed up with a "spirited" ride, and immediately get the bike up on the rear-stand.
I use the Grime Minister chain-cleaning brush, along with a good chain cleaning chemical (one that's safe for O-ring and X-ring chains), and rotate the chain through several times, using liberal cleaner with the brush - I use an old stiff toothbrush on the sprockets.
It's recommended to "warm-up" the chain when you put new chain lube on, so that the lube permeates well - you could spray some on, then ride it to get it nice and warm, then spray on some more, but I just rotate the chain while using a heat-gun, to get it warmed up, and then put plenty of new chain lube on.
I do this about ever 500 to 750 miles, roughly.

Like I said before, about the life of the chain and sprocket sets - using the 520 set, with alloy rear sprockets, I personally find it acceptible to get one season out of a set - if I get more than that, then great.
With a lot of track time this year, and a return to racing soon, I will have a couple of extra chains on hand, in addition to a couple of front sprockets, and an assortment of different tooth-count rear sprockets, so I can be prepared for failures, and get different acceleration characteristics, pending the circuit.

after getting out of work yesterday i come home to find my sprockets and chain waiting for me. couldnt believe i got it so fast from cali being i live in ny and it was free shipping paid 225 for the did Erv-3 chain with the afam sprockets and thx to ur advise i bought that $17 chain breaker tool from harbor freight guess they raised the price but it was worth it since my vise grips and hammer wasnt working. anyways got it all together and the bike is running awesome now and yea i had to remove a link which if u ask me is retarded. You shouldve seen how much dirt was burried in the chain cover no wonder why it ran like crap.btw the gold chain is sexy as hell.

Man, I just looooove coming home to find packages with new parts!!
I'm glad you're diggin' it - just keep the tension right, be religous with proper cleaning and lubing, and you'll get the longest life out of the set that you can.
