Default What is the wire that goes to the clutch lever?

I had a look around the forum and couldn't find an answer to this question. What is the purpose of the wire that goes to the clutch lever? I assume it's some kind of switch or sensor but what does it do?

its a switch so you can start the bike in gear with the clutch lever pulled.

You guys are lightning fast, thanks for the replies. I figured it was something along those lines but wasn't sure.

I asked because I have been thinking about buying new levers.

If you replace the stock levers with after-market ones, do the after-market ones use the same bracket? Do you just replace the lever and it uses switch already on the bike?
