Really sorry to hear about your young ones Conrice, can only imagine the worry as I was jumping on the walls over a simple little flu my 2yr old son had last week. Apparently getting better singe they were discharged?

Sorry I can't help with your electrics much as my own loom looks like a spaghetti dish ATM and I'm sure I would mix the two if I'd start poking around... the diagram looks precisely as, if not even more, complicated than mine and all roads seem to lead to rome here aswell (ecm)... guess it's inevitable since these are EFI bikes but personally I'd prefer that my bike's electrics were a bit simpler...

My son had a planned-surgery (his 6th so far in his first 14 months of life). What made it bad was that the night before the surgery, my daughter became very ill and was admitted to the hospital with a bad infection. She's now on the mend and the doctors are not concerned as she's started responding to the antibiotics and some tests confirm there isn't anything anatomically wrong. My son, too, is doing well, there weren't any complications. But, a few days ago, it didn't look as good. All is well that ends well, right?

It just doesn't make sense. The ECU being bad seems very unlikely to me as opposed to something being wrong with the wiring. There have been a few threads on other sites dealing with the same issue, I need to re-read them as its been a dew days. I'll figure it out.

Now, I'm trying to use my original lockset. The 954 incorporates a zener diode (pink wire on back of ignition). But the 1000rr doesn't use that, and I have 12v to the ECU, so I don't think its the issue and I don't have it hooked up. Am I wrong?

What do you guys think?

It doesn't matter much now that you have the second harness and ecu you could always fix/check the old harness later
I wouldn't want to plug a new ECU into that old harness till I was sure ****y wiring didn't fry the ECU.

I'd save myself the stress and time and pull the old harness completely and put in a good uncut one. Tracing down some track monkeys hack jobs on the old harness could take ages.

My thoughts too. But, I'm going to plug it into the harness, with no battery and check for continuity and resistance. If I have the same results, I'll KNOW that its something with the wiring since this ECU is good. If its different, I'll focus on checking for a short in the wiring before putting a battery on the bike, or more likely, just redo the harness.

Like you said Ahks, who knows what a track junkie did to it.

Any thoughts on the zener diode in the 954 ignition switch? Could it be as simple as running an '08 lockset?

Yes it is! Going through hell to come out to a bright day is better than not coming out.

What kind of anti theft system is on the 1000? Good place to start looking, in my mind if your missing a component that ecu doesn't understand/recognize it won't work.

No idea.

All of my wiring diagrams that I've been using are the euro bikes. Similarly to the 954 (whose euro editions included HISS), the euro 1000rr has an "immobilizer", but I can't find it as a part listed for the 1000rr here...

The ignition switches are just 2 wire ignition switches. Maybe they have some sort of chip???

Well, I had everything ready to go this morning to get the last bit of welding done on the exhaust....

Only to find UHaul won't rent an open utility trailer to a soft top jeep.....

Ugh....

Thanks Marcos that's actually one of the ones I was using, I still think something with the 954 ignition and the Zener diode it has was causing an issue, so I ordered a lock set for the bike. Since now it appears I'll have the bike at my house a few days longer, I'll check into it and test it out.

Christ... pls not another jeep circle jerk. They're as bad as BMW circle jerks... just with more dirt :/

I havn't been nearly as thankful or annoyed with any company as I am with uhaul. Can I please just sign a waver stating that I understand that YOU don't think my vehicle is capable of what I'm doing with it so I can just get on with my life? I want to put hitch on my old bimmer... a small one... I understand that a tongue weight over 500ish lbs will deform the sheet metal but I'm going to be towing a nearly perfectly balance load, on the plane with the hitch... if I were to set the tongue on a scale it would only ready 100lbs or so. AND I'm only towing about 800lbs. **** off. I'm annoyed that I have to buy a trailer to do what I want :/
