thanks rrasco if the "struggle" was next to the motorcycle it may have been in the way. After the motorcycle was pushed over did the cop just stand there? Were the officers leg or suspects legs getting tangled in between the motorcycle? I am still not saying that the cop was right but to me there are still some unanswered questions about the cops for me to determine if this was senseless or if the motorcycle was actualty in the way somehow.
Hopefully someone will get thier hands on the video again.

after the whole pushing the bike over to prevent an escape side was presented, that is what it looks like to me. cop turns, pushed it over, then immediately turns back to the suspect. not like he was, HA I PUSHED YOUR BIKE OVER YOU LOSER!

imo, that is probably the circumstance and most reasonable argument given the video and logical conclusions.

after thinking about this some more, i dont see how this is any different than LEOs ramming or pinning cars after high speed chases. i think as a majority everyone assumed what they knew the cop was doing, but i truly believe this was his reasoning. his body language doesnt speak rage at all.

going back to a previous comment where someone said something about vaporizing bikes with Ar15s.....would you think it wrong of an LEO running into the front of a car *after it was stopped* to keep the suspect from fleeing again? or would that be unexcusable since it is damaging someones property?

 

rrasco- you do bring up a good point with the PIT. Most people don't seem to mind when a cruiser makes contact with a vehicle and cause a loss of control. Most of the time it results in a accident that causes a lot more money in damage then a pushed over motorcycle. Sometmes vehicles strike trees and parked vehicles, or even occupied vehicle. In law enforcement stopping the pursuit is a necessary evil. Groups will always stick together ( sportbikers, harley riders, surfers, cops, etc) and will always try to defend thier own.
If the cops were in that much of a struggle with the suspect maybe the cop felt that the best way to prevent escape was to stop the suspects means of escape. Believe me its easier and safer to chase a suspect on foot then in a vehicle or motorcycle.

i am actually not specifically referring to the PIT maneuver. i am familiar with it, and kind of was referring to that too, but not really. while it is still relevant i know some readers will argue the bike was stopped (and we dont know that the bike was even shut off do we folks?), so to be more specific i meant when a vehicles finally comes to a stop after a chase, officers often will wedge their cruisers against the front and/or rear to prevent the suspect from fleeing again. often damaging the cruiser and/or the suspects vehicle. 'box' them in per say.

 

I understood what aspect you were were speaking about I guess I put a little spin on it and brought PIT into it just to prove a point that damge is sometimes caused to stop the threat of escape. Sorry for going in the same yet different direction.
I was just trying to state that most won't care about damage cause to a vehicle unless it hits home, like in this case a motorcycle pushed over for what some say is no apparent reason. Like I said sometime the best way to prevent escape is to prevent the means of escape. Sorry for taking a different twist but I did understand.

It looked like the one cop had the biker face down when the two new cops showed up. That seemed like the escape was over to me. I guess if the biker could have overpowered the one cop he would have done so already. Since he didn't we have to believe he couldn't. Now add two more cops..chances are even slimmer that the biker that didn't take on the one cop will now take on and escape from three cops seems even more unlikely. So even with this remote chance of the biker overpowering the first cop, the 2nd cop on the scene attacks the bike, not the biker. That makes sense. Take your eyes off the guy that you are worried about overpowering you and your two highly trained buddies equipted with guns, clubs, pepper spray, and tasers so you can push over his bike. Yes, I seethe logic. attack the bike because the biker is about to get free and beat up my two buddies. That is good police tactics. Let me take my attention away from the guy that can be a threat so I can knock over the getaway vehicle.

So by this logic, if someone is gonna rape some girl, you take his shoes first, then make sure he doesn't assault her. Good plan. I like it. Jeez, I would think you get the bad guy on the ground and then when your other police buddies show up they help you control the suspect until he is hogtied in the back of the car. It seems to me if the fat cop had time to attack the bike, the biker wasn't a threat anymore and the threat of escape was nil so attacking the bike was just him getting rid of some pent up anger. Since he got suspended chances are this wasn't the first time he did something that wasn't exactly perfect.
