I wear textile myself but I KNOW without a doubt that leather is by far more safe that textile. I went with price (at the time of my buying) and weather conditions. There is lots of heat here in the south and textile does breathe better. However, this past winter I wish I had a leather jacket!!! Its all in what you want to buy my friend!!!

Well guys thanks for your opinions and advice. After hearing what u guys have said i think im going to deal with the heat and get the leather. And i'll let good old uncle sam pay for it and simulate the economy. And still have money left over. Thanks uncle sam!!!! Have any of u worn or heard anything about the Icon Motorhead jacket.

good to hear coreodog .. you ain't the only one, I talked myself into it as well .. LOL!!

decided to upgrade the old beaten up leather and 5 minutes ago just ordered the Alpinestars TZ-1 from newenough.com .. wanted the MX-1 but all the reviews I read seemed to give the TZ-1 just as good a rating and stated it has very good ventilation for a leather jacket. If interested you can pick it up around $349 new or around half that from what I saw on ebay used.

I have a textile jacket myself. However, I DO know that leather is safer by far. Racers don't wear leather for the looks thats for sure. I chose textile because of the price (at the time), and also because I liked it and the weather was hot. Textile is cooler and does breathe better but last winter I was shopping for a leather jacket.

I am lucky enough to have both. I prefer the leather UNLESS I am driving in stop and go traffic around town- then its time for the textile.

Its a tough choice, but at least your are smart enough to get a jacket! any protection is better than none

Hi guys, this is gonna be my new post. I am looking at gear as well.

Now I know that most of your guys are saying the leather is much better in terms of protection, but I was doing some research, and the Icon ARC is actually a hybrid of textile and leather at the high impact areas. Do you guys feel that this is a good compromise?

I am only saying this because I am considering between the Icon Arc as well and the Alpinestars Exile jacket. The Arc one is much more expensive 300 bucks for a textile but has the leather at highimpact areas.. the Exile jacket is only textile but has added chest padding that the Arc doesn't have. If i went with either I was going to upgrade them both to have CE rated back armor and CE rated chest protection (only on the exile).

What do you guys think?

Thanks
