See I'm an American car guy, well Chevy's. Screw Dodge and Ford. I love big engines, with tons of hp and torque. You just can't beat the sound of a big block. I've always hated Jap crap as I called them. Small cars with small motors then people make them look ridiculous by adding huge wings, fake carbon fiber parts, a awful sounding coffee can muffler, a ground effects package that doesn't even match the car and then they think they have the most bad *** car on the street. I wouldn't sit in a Jap car let alone own one until my parents neighbor bought his Evo. Now I hate Evo's cause all the owners are douche bags (No offense to anyone here that owns one) but his car made 450 hp at the wheels and I was like damn this car is for real. Still don't like the looks of it or the sound it makes but I can respect it as a fast car. Then I drove the STI and I was impressed by how quick it is basically stock. I will still never own a Japanese car as I am a Chevy guy through and through but they have earned some respect from me.

I definitely understand where you are coming from, because I slam muscle cars. I hate them. But you just have to remember, "to each his own."

I'm sure in straight line, some muscle could have walked my STI. However, around a track, my car would've dominated. Also - the look when my little four banger would walk a V8 on the streets was priceless. I think you're grouping a bunch of other cars with the STI's, because the majority of them are not riced out. The parts on the car are functional. The scoop directing air towards the top mount, and the wing actually does produce quite a bit of downforce at speed. Is it needed around town? Definitely not. Not to say there aren't any riced ones, cause there are.

Evo owners do tend to be dicks, but not all.

I am the first one to say do what you want cause it's your bike/car. I hate the stretched, slammed, chromed out look but some people love it. I don't have to like it cause it's not my bike.

This really depends on the car but yes I agree with you and see what your saying.

I agree that the parts on the car can be functional but you don't see Vette's or Lambos or Ferrari's with huge hood scoops and big wings and those cars are very bad ***. I like the clean sleek look, not huge things sticking up out of the hood and truck. But once again my preference. I know a ton of poeple like it. If your racing it I completely understand but 98% of the people that have a 10FT tall wing only use the car to go to and from work.

Well not they are not all dicks but the ones that aren't are few and far between.

Back to the original topic...

I have a wrx and I love that thing, but I recently drove my friends 07 STI (stage 2 cobb tune, downpipe, catback) and wow do I want one more than ever. The transmission/diff is what I love the most (the power doesn't hurt either), having the ability to lock the rear just turns it into such a hoon machine.

I recently (2 months or so ago) sold my '01 2.5RS... I had grand plans of swapping it and stuff, but bleh. Anyways, I used to have an evo and still hang around with a lot of buddies I made from the Subaru crowd. Either car makes tremendous amounts of power from minor mods. One of my friends had an '04 STi and I think the thing that really makes that car is the gearing. If you learn how to manage those short gears, that car's gonna feel like you're on a sling shot outta the hole.

As far as that whole rice thing, you gotta realize "under the body" aerodynamics cost a lot more in R&D than wings n' lips. Look at the older Ferrari F40, that thing had a HUGE wing and look at the latest evo, they put a rear bumper spoiler and reduced the size of the trunk lid wing.

And yeah, lots of Evo owners are dicks. Most of the Evo car meets I went to were dick swinging contests for who had the most shiny CF and who had the most exclusive JDM parts. But to tell you the truth, you'll get it from any group of enthusiasts. It's not like you can buy a car or a bike and instantly be awesome. Yeah, I don't go to meets anymore.

The STI tranny/gearing is one of the the reasons I bought it. The trannys are bulletproof. It's the damn motor's that take a beating.. ****ing ringlands.

These cars aare clearly race cars. I'm talking about street cars. You know to go to work, to the store, the local bar to show off because you have all the money in the world but still don't have any friends or a life. So yeah they don't
