Free vin check through National Insurance Crime Bureau
Not sure if this has been posted before however stumbled upon this in the process of checking out a bike with a price too good to be true. Not sure if this is the best section for it but may be a good sticky for a tool to people to use for buying a bike or any vehicle for that matter. Pretty much searches through the insurance databases from a bunch of companies for records of theft.
An excerpt from the website
NICB's VINCheck is a service provided to the public to assist in determining if a vehicle has been reported as stolen, but not recovered, or has been reported as a salvage vehicle by cooperating NICB members. To perform a search a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is required. A maximum of five VINCheck searches can be conducted within a 24 hour period.
