I've been offered $5,000 to never ride again.
My two sons are a lot older than you....both have been in SERIOUS accidents over the past few years. Over the past month we have lost our club President and three other bikers who I knew personally. I ride a CBR1000F, and two weeks ago clocked it at 265 KPH (165MPH) so I'm no old and slow Grandpa.....My message to you is this:
1 Go to track school, however far away it is from where you live, and start learning the skills that will keep you out of the ER.......and learn to think BEFORE you act.
2 Get a copy of Keith Code's book " A twist of the wrist" - he started the California Superbike School, and knows a few things, certainly more than you or me from the look of it. You can download it free on uTorrent.
3 Show your Mom your understanding of where she's coming from, by trying to consider her feelings - get the right kit, and so on. See her offer for what it is - if your family's wealthy, it doesn't mean much, but if they're NOT - it shows you just how much you mean to them.....
It isn't POSSIBLE to act responsibly at 17, that much I know, but at least show her you're trying.

Dude, I have been rideing Drit bikes and qauds since I was 6 years old and I will be 30 this Friday. My mom always let me ride, but once I was able to get a street bike she would not let me do it. Now that i'm older she can not tell me what to do and hates the fact that I ride street, but she has never tried to pay me off. She knows how much I love my bike and has even helped with a few small project on it a few time's, but would love if i sold it and never rode street again.
You are 17 and if they want to tell you to stop riding then you should. it sounds to me like you are a crazy kid-being in the ER as much as you have. Sit down and think about things and go from there. You did the right thing about not taking the money-I respect you for that.I also respect you for not letting a crash keep you off the bike, but just use your head man-your still very young and have alot of time to get bikes and do fun things. I'm30 years old and I still have a blast with my toys.

haha if that was the deal i would do that..but i wouldnt do that to my parents..take the money, then move out and buy a bike and not let them know about that..it took me awhile to gain my parents trust, they know i dont do drugs(NEVER WILL) and when im going to drink, i tell them, and they often times will give me a ride to where i need to be. When i jump on my bike again (actually have for about 2 miles) i will be alot smarter..i relize how dumb it is going 150 mph down the highway..it took a wreck to make me relize that i dont have to drive like a moran to have fun on it, and i actully used some of my repair money and just bought a Icon Merch jacket. (like $100.00)
i will be careful, and i think they understand that i will use better judgement skills, and its not that they are worried about..its just being so close to the sturgis rally and hearing ambulances all night, and in the morning watching the news with a headline saying "6 motorcylce deaths overnight" and only maybe one of which was the bikers fault..they are more worried about cagers thn anything..and im scared to death of them. i dont want to die that way at all..espescially at 17 years old. but i also just cant take a break..this 7 months of being off of it is literally killing me.

yea i wouldnt take the cash either way just to impress your parents but if you can deal with not riding i would take a little while off for them... i kno i just got my bike and havent got to ride it (on the street anyway) so i know it would be real hard for me to wait any longer, but im sure they would really appreciate it and think of what a great son they have to quit somethin he has such passion for just because they wish you would... and then maybe theyll realize the sacrifice youre willing to make for them and tell you you can ride after a while
