Good cold-weather gear?
I have a tourmaster jacket that has inner lining and is waterproof. I match it with my old leather harley davidson gloves that i wore in 15 degree weather going 80 down I 5. They were freezing since they just basic leathers but sport bikes have fairings and I honestly don't get cold or wet on these bikes and i commute 24miles one way.
Layers man, start with something natural, close to the skin, keep the warmth in (thermal weave cotton) vest & long johns (yeah I know, just don't have an "off" & no one will ever know) but since its only 15 minutes maybe save the johns for a longer ride. Just remember though that you still have to get around at work, & if its in an office & you can't change, (they can never get the temp or humidity right,) so you make bake. Next is a decent jumper. Leather is best for winter riding, I have a jacket & pants that can be worn seperately, but zip together at the back. I also wear a scarf, (very dapper), but keeps the cold out & warmth in, neck & chest, also usefull for pulling up over nose & chin. When I used to do my 100 mile round trip daily commute, I used to have a silk balaclava, that was brilliant at keeping the cold out . Cotton thermal gloves & decent pair of leather ones with Thinsulate, & waterproof (not "shower proof") Spend some bucks & get a decent set of wet weather gear (for bikes riders!!), that will go over the top of your other gear comfortably. Stuff I use is Gore-Tex, which is a water proof, but breathable material. Mine is a pair of overalls, which makes it easy to get on & off, and they also come in very handy with the 70's disco nights at the local.
And lastly a good pair of boots. Think of this stuff as an investment, it will keep you riding even through the crappiest of conditions.
On any bike ride, cold is a killer, in numbs your mind & reaction times. keep warm & your laughing. get cold and your lifes misirable, you get impatient & start to make mistakes.

and for everyone else, thanks for the advice. the only riding i've ever done in cold weather is on a 4 wheeler on my uncle's farm, and i remember how miserable it was. my hands went numb, i had snot running down my cheeks (Dumb and Dumber style), and i couldn't feel my legs. fortunately i didn't have to balance on two wheels or i probably would have fallen off. around January or February we'll start having weather in the 20s and teens, so i'd like to be prepared (driving my car to work just isn't quite the same since i've started riding).
