I think Ive split lanes once and when I did it I was just being stupid I'll admit that. I won't do it again though unless Im in heavy traffic and theres a exit up ahead. Now about the exhaust I have noticed ppl dont come over on me like they used to but idiots still pull out on front of you or come over with only inches to spare. Do that to me you get the finger and Im gone. Hate when people ride our butts too I mean im not that experienced so stop doing it. And since ive started riding ive gained alot more respect for us as riders.

But when I'm in my jeep, I dont hear bikes unless the are right beside me or just plain being an ***.

And if you think about what you do while you're in your cage, windows up, ac going, stereo going, and most of you prolly have stereos that would wake the dead so.... lol

 

Didn't think that there would be such a split on the consensus (yes, pun intended and yes, I realize I'm probably the only one who would laugh at that joke ).

I think there's a whole 'nother reason people are ignoring for splitting lanes. It's fun. Yeah, that probably makes me an asshat to say, but I never looked at motorcycles as anything you should bring legitimately practical thought processes into (i.e. I chuckle when people talk about gas mileage on motorcycles). Do I split lanes on a regular basis? No, I don't often find a need to. However, for all of you giving that, "You're not that important, get in line" rhetoric, what about these assclowns who ride across all lanes at the same exact speed (at or under the speed limit)? IMO, you need to pass (passing lane) and get back in line or I'm gonna split. I don't own the road and I know this so I just "ride at my own risk". Besides, a lot of these people drive like that because they don't like seeing cars in front of them, just as much of a dickheaded move.

Also, drive in Jersey for a day, cager or not, everyone is more important than everyone else when it comes to the turnpike/parkway and you're **** out of luck if you're looking for that egalitarian hope that we all just get on with the grind of "waiting in line".

Same way of thinking is all over here too.. I feel your pain. Lane splitting to a cager is almost like watching that one clown that rides the shoulder in bumper to bumper traffic for 2 miles and then gets over right at the end. I always wish for a state trooper.

 

I don't really get the issue people have with lane-splitting. I imagine "responsible" lane-splitting as PG described. Below 20 mph, usually approaching a red light or in a traffic jam.

Living in FL, I've never done it because it's illegal and it's just not worth it to me. I can't even recall ever seeing anyone do it either... and we have a lot of damn squids. The closest I've come is doing 25 on the shoulder in stopped traffic because I got worried about my fan draining my battery sitting there in the middle of the summer. (anyone who's ever ridden on I-4 or I-95 during rush hour knows what I'm talking about)

That said, I don't really understand the animosity toward lane-splitters. I mean, I can see that someone would be jealous that a guy on a bike gets to filter to the front but unless he's just being an idiot about it he's really not affecting you at all. Whether he gets ahead or not, you're still sitting in traffic. I make a huge distinction between doing it "responsibly" and being a douche doing it at speed on the interstate or something, but I guess I'm just not getting why it would upset someone at all if, for example, they're sitting 3rd at a red light and a biker filters by them at practically idle speed moving to the front. Where's the harm?

Sometimes people just take themselves too seriously and get jealous over silly things, imo. /end soap box... I'm just as guilty as most...
