you're right, a gun is a dangerous tool, but its only as dangerous as the person holding it.
I agree that a gun is a tool. But as far as being only as dangerous as the personholding it I gotta disagree. This is because any *****/drunk/crackhead/crimminal can pull a trigger. It greatlyamplifies their ease and ability to do harm as well as intimidate othersand that is the problem with firearms.

If only good law abiding people owned firearms then they would essentially be unneeded for protection. But given the fact that most, if not all violentcrimes are committedby illegal guns, then there needs to be a balance of power.

As far as carrying a gun, I would look to a small .357 hammerless revolver, even a 5 shot to make it easier to conceal. They kick like a bitch, but with .38 hydrashocks they should do the job without too much abuse to the owner.

Gosh!! ..the ease with which you guys talk about carrying/having guns never fails to scare me ..lol ..its so completely alien to me!!

Its like, right time for a bike ride!! .. I got my wallet, my phone ..oh and my gun (just that wee little thing that can be aimed at a person and take their life right from them) ... scary!!

Jules *shudders*
You don't see many people getting beaten to death with cricket(sp?) bats over here either. England banned guns, that helped the crime rate huh? Riiiiiight. The thugs are out of control over there and john Q public can do nothing but run and hide.

On topic, Depends on what I am doing for my carry piece. Regular used to be a gov't 1911, went to a kimber ultra carry 1911. I'm a thin guy and IWB is more often than not really uncomfortable, so I use a Bianchi high ride OWB. If I'm just running to the store and don't feel like putting on a belt or in a hurry, I carry a stainless bobbed 38+P in a pocket holster or in my jacket, its almost always with me anyway, so light and easy to carry and believe it or not I can hit almost as good with it as my FS 1911. If I am out in the woods hunting or trail riding, its a GP100 on the hip or a G23. I cast and reload for everything I shoot and usually put in 2-3 days a week at the range, anywhere between 200-500 rds.

Edited to correct spelling.....

I completely understand your arguement and we are from such different cultures ... but ..throw a hammer at someone and the chances are they will live
Ummm...

I just want to add, that my Aunt was killed by her gf/roommate (I have the feeling she wasn't quite right in the head) about 12 yrs ago with a hammer as she slept. Then proceeded to live with the body for close to a month. The only reason this was discovered, was that someone reported to the Landlord that they haven't seen the 2 for awhile. So they checked in and ended up having to call the police. I went with my mom, another Aunt and my girlfriend (later ex) to the murder scene...on Halloween.

We were responsible in removing any personal affects we wanted to keep. The Landlord had opened the windows to let it air out...(which helped a lot, but there was still a lingering aroma). You could see on the wall where the forensics team determined the points of impact. More grisly details that I'm withholding.

Anyone can push a gas pedal, and it doesnt take skill to run someone over with 4000 lbs of steel. It isnt hard to get a drivers licence, most felons can get one. But to get a FOID card or CCP their are so many regulations and background checks. Im not saying these stop a criminal, because they couldnt care less about any law so why start here, but I as a law abiding citizen would like to carry a weapon I should have some process of legaly doing so.

Well, theres crime rate wherever you go in the world ..especially the cities, but I would hardly say thugs are out of control here ..I have travelled the length and breadth of my country in complete safety ...I have never seen a gun while out and about, let alone have one pointed at me ... I live in a very rural area, I know Manchester has its problems like many other cities but hardly out of control .. but lets say they are out of control and me and "john Q public" are running and hiding ...would allowing these out of control thugs to legally own guns be better for us??

i dont have ccp... but ive got my Sig with me most of the time anyways. if i go to jail i go to jail. if i get fined i get fined.

EDIT: thugs dont have ccp. i think like 2 felonies have been commited by persons with ccp since its introduction. thugs gonna carry guns one way or another so im right there with them. im no thug and i dont commit felonies on a daily basis anyways. the ONLY reason i carry is beacuse you never know whos had a bad day, if they decide they want to try to take it out on me by threatening me with a gun i refuse to stand there and die because of a law. luckily ive never had to pull it or even hint that i had it. if i can walk or run from the situation i have and will. p226 9mm with Ranger +p+.

I don't even know where to start on this....
ok, here goes. "allowing criminals to have guns" We don't allow murderes to kill, we don't allow rapist to rape, and we don't allow thieves to steal....see where I'm going with this......they are criminals, they will kill rob rape regardless of the laws, hence the term "criminal". I don't see a law being passed and all the criminals come running in to turn in their illegally obtained firearms. All you are doing is taking away the rights of law abiding citizens, and taking away their right to self preservation/protection. I don't know about you or where you live per se, but I for one wouldn't hang a sign on my front door saying "owner of home is unarmed" Gun control areas crack me up, just the logic of it, its a free for all for criminals cause all the law abiding, are following the law, and don't have protection, seems like pretty easy picking to me, and them also. Look at all the gun free zones and areas....schools, no shootings there huh, malls, universities ect.....but those dang criminals should have known those were gun free zones and played along right????
If guns are so dangerous and prone to jumping up on their own and causing such mayhem, and is guns cause violence and more guns equals crime, them why don't we ever hear of a crime or a mass shooting at a gun show, where thousands of guns are being handled and displayed by thousands of people under one roof? Sounds like it should be a blood-bath but, alas, it is not. So, to answer your question, would it be better for you to allow thugs to legally have guns. No, criminals should not have them depending on their crime, but, what WOULD be better, would be to give you as a human, the right to protect yourself should you so choose.

I understand and accept everything you say here ... but you guys have a gun culture over there, yes?? ..we dont, so our yobs/thugs actually dont own guns either in the main .. yes there will always be the illegal gun carrier but in the main our streets are clean of guns ... so we might not own them to protect ourselves but neither do all these thugs running around either ... I have seen gangs of youths in the cities but they are not carrying guns in the main ... if it was totally legal then I am sure they would do and then perhaps we all would have to as well ..then we have a gun culture .. your country is so big compared to us on this island and I am sure what works there is different to here ... seriously we are not fearing gun crime here ... a road rage incident is not likely to turn into having a gun pointed in your face or the possibility of it ... its just not like that here .. I feel that the blanket ban on guns *here* works better for us in the main than it would for you guys ...
