Default New guy from East Tennessee

Hi everyone,

My name is Joe and I have been a motorcycle nut all my life (I'm 50) mostly vintage American stuff.

I have always wanted a sport bike because I like the beauty of the full fairings. I probably won't tear up the twisties too hard but they look like a lot of fun.

Anyway last week I found what was supposed to be a 1987 CBR Hurricane 1000 on craigslist that was in really good condition (okay it needs a little work) for pretty cheap. I bought the bike but when I got it home quickly realized it was a 600. Hopefully it has enough grunt to get me around (5'10 and 250 lbs.). If not perhaps I can trade up to a larger bike.

Glad to be part of the forum!

He probably will, but there is nothing quite like an 87 1K hitting 7 000 rpm.

It is still an experience that both thrills me and scares me all at the same time.

Welcome to CBRF, Joe! Sorry you bought the 600 instead of the 1000 like you wanted. You'll have to ride it and see how you like it.

Hey Joe, welcome to the CBR Forum.

Here's my 2.2c worth - Flog the 600 and get the CBR1000F - you will never regret it. I had a quick look at your photobucket. Some nice toys there.

Cheers, SB

Welcome to the asylum Joe !
The 600 and 1000 are both great bikes - the big difference comes out when you start to hit higher revs and speeds (and bigger torque figures)
You're a big guy, so you may find the 600 a little "less than perfect" - but as has been said, ride the bike and when you're comfortable, ride the 1000F.
I think you'll see what we're talking about.
Enjoy what we have to offer and ask any questions - we don't post or tolerate "smart remarks" to new guys- we're here to help each other.
(Of course when you've been here awhile, you'll need a sense of humour)
Especially in the Hurricane section !

I agree 100% with KIWI TK Nothing like it and I am in my 60's, 5 foot 8 inches and 10 stone. Great feeling.
