Default Cbr newbie with questions

Hi everyone,

I have just bought a 2001 honda cbr 600 rossi edition. I am confused as to what forum I should be looking for advice under. Can someone advise is it and f1 or f4i etc?

Also with the headlights can someone advise if I have a bulb out or should only one side be lit when I have the normal beams on. Do both only come on when full beams are on? Both work when I turn the full beams on.

See the attached pics.

Also with the fuel guage does it only flash when the reserve comes on or should it show the level of the fuel at all times. Thinking I may have an issue. Some aftermarket indicators have been put on recently and thinking maybe this had caused a slight electrical issue. When indicating left there is a delay on the dash and does not click on automatically.

Sorry for the long post and many thanks in advance.

Side light

Dipped lights

Full beam

Welcome, Ross! Thanks for the pics! I can answer a few of your question...

Pretty sure you don't have an F1 as those were only made... well, never, as far as I know. There was an F and an F4 way back in the 90's I think. So, not much help for you on that ...

The headlights are a-okay. Only one lights up when you aren't in "bright" mode. I had someone point that out to me when I first started riding and thought the same thing, i.e. something was wrong.

The fuel gauge only shows when you hit your "reserve" and everyone's is a bit different. Mine will come on with about 1.5 gallons left and then start flashing when I hit 1 gallon. At that point (flashing) I know I need to find a gas station in the next 20 miles or so.

Welcome to the forum Ross,
I can add a bit to Doc's post.

As far as this forum is concerned being US based you have a 2001 F4i.
In UK speak it is an F1 which is a 2001 fuel injected CBR600F with the 'banana' seat. I previously had an F5 which was a 2005 model year CBR600F5

In the UK for model years 2001 & 2 there was also the CBR600F Sport which is the twin seat version, this is the version which was launched in the states as the F4i hence the confusion when crossing the channel.

The indicator issue is probably just the switch than needs a clean.

How many miles are on it and are you new to biking or returning?

Cheers
Al

Many thanks for the help. I will try that with the indicator switch and see if it works.

There is just under 8000 miles on the clock and I am a regular biker. I have just upgraded from a 1999 honda hornet. Felt like a change to this type of bike. Looking forward to getting out more in tbr good weather. We are not so lucky in the UK.

Many thanks for the help on this. The bike needs a vehicle inspection done soon and wanted to make sure. They can fail for a bulb being out.

As for the fuel guage. I have had a look on YouTube and see the version of my bike and it has their fuel guage showing the level. The guy I bought it off said it only comes on when it hits reserve but just want to be 100% sure. Will just need to wait and see when the fuel runs down.

The main difference from the Hornet will of course be the riding position and a little bit more power, it will encourage you to ride a little faster as mentally you are in a more aggressive position on the bike. I have jut raised the bars on mine (a little less agile as age creeps up on me) and find it more relaxed and hence quite happy to ride a little slower... strange eh!
I do love the engine and handling tho which is why I did that rather than change the bike.

As Doc said, the fuel gauge will initially show when you switch the ignition on, thereafter will only come on when on reserve is reached which is about a gallon of fuel left, once it starts flashing and the segments start to disappear you really need to be looking to fill up!

Good luck with the MoT
