WD 40 is basically a solvent
SD2007, WD 40 is basically a solvent with some lubricating properties.
My mustache is older than you son, so when I sneeze you can be sure I will save some snot for your chain once it drips off my stach, dude! My snot works just fine on chains also!!!
You probably don't know how to adjust a chain or know when a chain is worn to the point where adding my snot keeps it running for 200,000 more miles! Do you want me to send you the chain o-rings with some of my snot on them to prove that my snot works as well as WD 40?
You might want to get some designer stilettos and wear your leapard skin thong with that worn chain dude. That way when you are lost in the desert broken down, I will know you are truly the ignorant one who used WD 40 on his chain as a chain lube!
Since WD 40 has no shear resistant polymers (which good chain lube has by the way), WD 40 lasts to about 2 miles per hour before it is flung off the chain. Then what do you have left to keep the chain lubed? Yes, you are right, my F.cking snot!! Desert snot sticks to even Chuck Norris. And by the way, my sleeping shirt says that the boogy man hides from Chuck Norris and Chuck baby runs from my snot so take those snotty words and use them on your chain! Now go have a drink of purple grape juice before mommy comes in to tuck you in for the night!
P.S. Snot eating boy (leave some for your chain!), I do have imaginary friends and they say they don't like you! But of course, your own imaginary friends, in your head, say they don't like you so you have to try to prove to everyone that you are not worth friendship. You did a good job showing that on this Thread now go to bed after mommy tucks you in....

Meds and reply
I need no meds, I am a certified lunatic that likes little boys like you! You don't even know what a shear resistant polymer is do you? You know that WD 40 doesn't have it, so you have been slam dunked!!! You do know what the word shear means since your panty hose have that word on the package! Such a little booger eater.... Now go get your imaginary friends that hate you and share mommy's purple grape juice with them before mommy returns and tucks you in like a good little booger eater.
Next time you bad mouth a respected contributor like Classic, be prepared to face the yellow jacket hive, booger eater... Now go home and ask mommy to wipe your nose for you, you aren't welcome, but your imaginary friends are since they don't like you either.

OK, so WD-40 doesn't have shear resistant polymers. Is that a problem? My chain went 20,000 miles with no measurable wear. How do you explain that? Maybe shear resistant polymers aren't necessary for the external surfaces of a chain. How many miles can one expect to get from chains lubed with shear resistant polymers?
I'm not claiming WD-40 to be the ultimate chain lube. All I'm saying is that it's not an O-ring destroyer and that chains "lubed" regularly with WD-40 can have a good service life.
I'm not going to engage in an insult contest, so feel free to leave the trash talk out of any follow-up posts.

I go away for a few hrs to wear my chain out a little more ...and the plot thickens on the great WD40 debate ...
We have had this debate quite a few time's here on CBRF , but never this intense...
Hey Joe... I can shoot you a few of my old timers Meds mate... although I do think that this is denigrating into a bar brawl that may require a touch more liquid than chain Lubrication if yu get my drift Joe LOL
....... dam I should move it to our Saloon ??

OMG ...we should start a poll on this one ...
Hand up anyone not directly related to god, that has ever run a chain on a high powered motorcycle and had no measurable wear occurring over 20,000 MILES!!... ***** ...This I gotta see....
Seems we don't even need to lend this kid a gun to shoot himself in the foot.....he's doing fine without one anyways... LOL
all in good fun though

No measurable chain wear
SD2007, the reason I said that you probably don't know how to adjust a chain and know when there is chain wear is because you are not a mechanic, period. You don't know how to measure chain wear, so to you, there is no "measurable chain wear." You started the "imaginary friend" sh.t, so once the calvary comes to a real brother's aide, you start to cry for mommy.
You are not a mechanic. I, on the other hand, am a mechanic. I have made a living as a mechanic. I have been one since 1971 and have been working on my own motorcycles since 1974. I have owned more motorcycles than your age! So, your words are meaningless since you have no proven talent except being an antagonist. Maybe you should read Paul's Case and go do what Paul did.... That way even your imaginary friends will cheer when the train hits you!
As I said, WD 40 flings off the chain leaving not lubricant on the chain after a small amount of riding. Let's see, do metal surfaces that are in contact with each other, spinning at a high rate of speed, need some form of lubricant? Duh, I don't know Batman why don't we ask George of the Jungle, he be smart.... Use some of your common sense for once in you adult life SD2007.... Tell us how YOU measure chain wear....
P.S. Let's just all get bikes with driveshafts or belts. A Stud Hoss, Boss Hoss 502 cubic inch, 500 hp, 1400 pound motorcycle uses a belt so they are proven worthy...
