Well, naturally a lack of oil pressure (which is really bad for the engine) will cause that light to come on. It would help to know what year and model CBR you have. Also some history on the bike as well.

All I know is that whoe ever had it before me didnt really maintain this bike like it should.... Hell the oil that I reemoved was thick and looked like mud...... The bike has rides fine even with the light on. Thats at a short distance because i dont want to cause any more damage.....

So you're saying, that you've changed the oil and verified that it is properly filled, correct?

If it's improperly reporting the oil level, check the send. Is it properly hooked up?
If the PO was a drudge, he may have neglected to do so. That would be the next
thing to consider, imo.

With a new bike, I highly recommend getting the manual and performing ALL
suggested maintenance-type tasks. Up to and including, any mileage service intervals
indicated by the bikes current mileage. It's best to assume that no maintenance
has ever been done on the bike. Doing this assures, when completed, that the bike
is at it's optimal. Never trust that the PO was competent, always do the work yourself,
to assure that it WAS/IS done.

What oil did you use?
How much oil did you put in?
What filter did you use?
