Hi ladies and gents aint been on in a while , what with a new job and everything else its been chaos, ive used my bike all through the winter and its been great went out yesterday and the oil light came on? oils fine checked it on the side of the road, so home i went luckly i had only just left hadnt gone far , ive changed the filter the oil and changed the sender switch but its still on flickering , but more on than off, am i looking to remove the pump, and if i do can i get to the pickup and pump by removing the bottom cover off the engine after ive removed the exhaust ? forgot to mention its an 89 model

It's just a simple pressrue switch, right? If it is then try to check it with a multi meter when the engine is runing. If the switch is ok, then check the wiring.

Even better if you could connect a mechanical gauge into the switch hole. This should eliminate any guessing.

Could be a loose connection to the dashboard?

At this point, anything short of checking the actual pressure with a mechanical gauge is a gamble. You need to start with that and work upstream to find the problem. It could easily be a legitimate low oil pressure problem.

Yes, the oil pump is located inside the oil pan. With an oil pressure problem, you really want to get this right. You can pick up an oil pressur guage for around $30 in a kit with different fittings. I would start there. At 5000 rpm, you should be getting anywhere between 85-100psi. With yours fluctuating, I would think that one of the drive pins/dowls may have sheered. The would cause the symptoms you're getting, but no way to be sure without testing and/or dissasembly. I fould a guage on Amazon for just under $30. You can probably get one in a local automotive parts store for about the same.
