New Chain - lubed?
Ok - this is a followup to my prior new chain post, but with a diff question.
Got a new chain & sprockets, - chain was an EK - X-ring MVXZ series.
I used to be a bicycle mechanic, and new chains on bikes come packed in basically what is similar to kosmoline, just a sticky metal protectant that isn't to be used as chain lube - you're supposed to degrease the new chain then relube with proper chain lube.
On the motorcycle, my chain was coated with a white grease, looked like lithium, and since EK also sent a pouch of the same lube for the master link assembly, I assume that stuff is perfectly fine as a chain lube.
BUT HOLY LORD does it go everywhere. I have this stuff now slung all over the rim/tire/inside the hugger, swingarm, my undertail, my subframe - it's everywhere. I had even tried to wipe a good bit of it off before riding, but apparently that wasn't good enough.
I was running Motul chain lube on the old chain, and you got a little flinging, but no where near this level. Can I just spray some WD-40 or kerosene on a rag and lightly wipe the chain down just to get the excess off the sideplates and other exterior areas?

When I put a new chain on my old bike I cleaned the chain using a foaming degreaser and then sprayed on my chain lube. I have tried a couple different brands of lube and found out that a lot of the "low fling" flings grease everywhere, so I didnt want to take the chance and put on my own chain lube.
I currently have PJ1 and Maxima chain wax in my garage....I know one of them flings more than the other but now I forget which one it is....Both of those are decent though as long as you let it dry before taking off.
