exhaust leak
i have 1990 1000f and it has youshi 4 to1 pipe big leak at no.3 cylinder what i wanna know is should i warm engine before removing? bought four new gaskets just nervous about shearing a bolt on the old girl any advise?iplan on sanding down repaint it sounds sweet xsept fer leak
nooooo I wouldn't heat the engine before taking the bolt off, use PB blaster on the bolts (but if you run the bike after applying it and before trying to take the bolts out then you might be back at step 1, I'm not sure) to free them up. Let it soak for maybe a day or two, that SHOULD help.
Aluminium expands quicker that steel, so it should be easier to remove bolts with a warm engine. The head being aluminium will expand faster than the bolts making it fairly easy to undo. I would still soak the bolt with WD40 or similar though then either warm the area aroung the bolt gently with a blowlamp or start the engine and get it just hot enough so you don't overheat it. Hope it all goes well!
thanks everyone pipes came off easy in fact id say some were loose book says 12ft lb torque so i put new gaskets in now no more leak but now i can really hear engine noise, still need cam chain, valve adj but ill get there
