Default Electrical problems

my 97 F3 is having some sort of electrical problem...when i sit down all power to my bike shuts off...lights, gauges even spark. has this ever happened to someone before? it seems as though a wire's grounding out somewhere, but i have no idea where to begin looking. any help would be great. thanx!

When you sit down? As in when you actually sit on the seat when the bike is running?

Under the left hand fairing is the Solenoid, follow the RED wire from the battery if you cant find it.
On top will be a plug And the red wire from the battery the other Big cable goes to the Starter motor & the main 30A fuse
the plug contains the live switch wire to the ign key (RED), the charging wire from retifier back to the battery(THROUGH SOLENOID)(RED/WHITE), Clutch Diode (GREEN/RED), Start Switch (YELLOW/RED)
if you pull the plug off you might find that the terminals have gone all green with corrosion,

find a Female with one of these sandpaper boards they use for their finger nails and clean all the gunge off the terminals then
get a pick and clean out the plug terminals put some Petrolium jelly(VASALINE) in the plug and solenoid
refit the plug and everything should be ok.
if not you'll have to take the tank off to get to the other wiring connectors just hiding beneath front of seat / Tank
Hope this helps

Pinched wires between the seat and frame seem to be the biggest cause of electrical problems.
