the 600 mile service
so, I'm around 600 miles, which is obviously when you do the "600 mile service." The thing is, is that I called the place where I got the bike and asked them how much it costs. They gave me a quote of 175 bucks with parts and labor. They check the chain, suspension, tire pressure, lights, throttle position sensor, bla bla bla.... change the oil and air filter.
My question is, do I need all of that stuff done? Can't I just change my own oil, air filter, and check my tire pressure, and be done with it? How are they gonna check my suspension? What are they gonna do with my lights? Hey, they're ON! They must be doing ok, no? Mess with the tps? why? Is it F**ked up already? So, once again, can I just change my oil, air filter, check air pressure, ask you guys what to do with the chain (cuz I don't know; I'm guessing it's just supposed to be tightened to a certain degree), and have my "600 mile service" complete?

Wierd, when I first called about my 600 mile service they quoated me the same price. I called back the day I was going to bring it in they told me it was more like $85.00 and it was
Ask them what their hourly rate is then ask how much oil and the filter will cost, your air filter will still be good. Find out how long the service should take then do the math. I watched the tech at my Honda dealer do mine and except for making sure some bolts were tight all the service amounts to is an oil change. The tech had to remove the bottom farings to access the oil filter. The only reason why I took it in was so I could see them do it first so I could do it there after.
Bottom line $175 is way to much.
