Bro, sit down,

I just put my bike in the shop today for the 24,000klm(16,000miles) and got the shock of my life when he told me it will be roughly A$700......

Its a major service so the usual oil, Filters, spark plugs etc then they also have to do a valve clearence check......Its a biggy when it comes to this service....[:@]

Own a 4 valve Ducati and you will drop 700 to 1000 every 3500 miles. so that is really not bad if you think about it.

Has anyone ever done the valve check themselves?
I was told that although they are supposed to be checked at 16K, they never need adjustment cos the honda engines in general are so well designed.
Is this true or did anyone have to actually adjust theirs at that mileage?

Can you have them omit any part of the inspection. im sure they change all the fluids and try to hit you with every part that is even slightly worn. i just did front and rear brakes and steel braided lines front and rear, so break fluid and pads are good. i will be due for tires then too.[:@].

You betcha! I've always done my own valve clearance checks and adjustments. I'll probablycheckthe 1000RR aftera few thousand milesor so,once it's nice and broken in. After that I'll stick to the recommended interval.

Yep, this is what I have been told by countless mechanics and fellow riders....And that for yamaha, suzuki and honda are so well designed that there really is no need for a check at 24,000klm (16,000miles). and that you should do the check at the next major...Its a waste of time But if you wanna keep your warranty and sleep good at night...then get it done...My mechanic told me not to worry bout it but for warranty issue I went ahead with it...also got to think a couple hundred to check or a couple thou for a head??? If you where unlucky and the valve crapped itself.....Everyone says the same thing that unless its a kawa then no need til over 30,000mile???

yep......if you omit everything except for the valve check you are still prob looking at at least 400-500......im pretty sure they have to pretty much dissasemble the head..... friend of mine took his kaw-zx10r in at 18000 and he had a slightly bent valve....another couple hundred miles and he would have been buying a complete head assmebly....instead he just needed a new vlave/seat and went ahead and ported/polished while the head was off...

one thought is that you may be able to talk the shop into letting you trailer the bike in already stripped down to the tank......prob save an hour of so of labor with the mechanice not having to remove/reinstall plastic

just a thought
