I need to buy a new rear tire because I got a nail stuck in it the other day.

I've been looking online for a rear, narrowed it down to a Dunlop Qualifier or a Metzeler.

I just read that I shouldnot change brands or styles on the rear only. If Ijust want to replace the rear, then get the same one as the front. If you want to change, you have to change BOTH?

Is this necessary or could I get by just changing the rear. The front Dunlop is perfectly fine.

you will be fine. you want to keep the tread pattern pretty much the same for front and rear, but it's not necessary if you won't be riding uber hardcore or anything.
