Default Speedometer problems

Hey guys its been a while since i posted on here, but i have a problem that needs fixing. the other day i was on my way to work and my speedo quit working. i have done some searches and found that it is usually faulty wiring or a bad speed sensor. i am going to tear the bike down tomorrow to check the wiring. question is, is the speedo comes on when the bike gets to around 174 degrees and works from then on, but when the bike is cold the speedo will not work. if it is the speed sensor that is faulty (i suspect it is with 34000 miles on the bike) where can i get a new speed sensor? i have searched ebay but have come up empty handed. i also searched bike bandit and found nothing. any feed back is appriciated. Thanks.

not sure where to get one at. i had mine replaced at a buddies shop. he charged me $180 to do the sensor and install my rear tire hugger. so idk how much JUST the sensor would be.

i'd DEFINATELY say that is your problem. mine had the same things going on. it would seem as if the speedo wouldnt work until the bike "heated up".

I am also having the same issues. In addition, after cruising at about 60 mph or so the FI light will come on as well, and will not shut off until the bike is restarted. Anyhow, I've found a good place to purchase the speedo sensor..

http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...4-2001/o/m2050

Click the "Crankcase" option in the scrolling window. Then scroll down on the page and selection 9 will be the speedo sensor for $75. I have yet to purchase it. I will be doing this monday, tearing the bike down, and putting this small sensor in. Bummer.

Hope that helps!

well i tore apart my bike yesterday and found that there was some corrosion on the connector to the gauge from the speed sensor. i cleaned the connector with a wire brush and some wd40 and then applied some connection grease. put it back togeather and the speedometer worked. well see for how long though....
