Pulled over
This happened a few weeks ago
The three Mounties who received speeding tickets on Highway 16 in May are facing an internal investigation as well as the four-month driving suspension each received.
The three were charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speeding (at least 40 km/h over the posted speed limit), driving without due regard for others, and failing to stop for a police officer.
The latter charge was explained on Thursday by Insp. Eric Brewer, commander of RCMP traffic operations in northern B.C. He said that on May 15, a member on highway patrol west of the city met the three motorcycle riders coming in the opposite direction and clocked them at an excessive speed. The member engaged the police vehicle's lights and did a safe U-turn to follow them, as they did not immediately pull over to stop.
"There was never a pursuit," stressed Brewer. "The member began what we call 'closing the distance' then broke that off and radioed to another member behind."
That police vehicle waited for the trio at the intersection of McBride Timber Road and Highway 16. When the bikers came into view, the member indicated for them to stop. "They immediately pulled over," Brewer said.
When it was discovered that the three were all off-duty police officers from the Prince George detachment, they were allowed to continue on their way without charges, but with the understanding that further action would be taken.
They had the DL's suspended for 4 months, but remain on duty doing ride alongs and/or desk jockey
