How can i trust this mechanic?
I recently meet this someone when i was at the DMV and he offered me a card of where he works. I told him about my leaky fork seals and he said to bring my bike into the shop. I never heard of this place, "desert race works" but the card looks reasonable. The quote to get my seals replaced was about 165 including parts and labor, however that's a very low price IMO, so how can i trust this person to do a good job and not screw anything else up without taking the risk and letting him take care of my motorcycle? I mean, what if this guy is so screwed up he scratches the forks so they still leak, and when i take my bike back he tells me that i need new forks lol i know im to paranoid but what if!? so how do you guys find a good mechanic?

i think u need to do these yourself
theres a how to for it, its not hard at all bc the bottles are measeured for u already with fork oil
for real, im not being mean, but youve been very apprehensive about going to a mechanic or dealer. that means, time to do it yourself. it really isnt hard. for me it was probably one of the easiest things ive done to my bike. it took maybe 2 hours total and i was going slow. spend maybe 100 bucks on tools, seals, oil, maybe bushings and go to work. if u want me to give u a detailed how to then pm me, i have lots of pics.

If it were me, I'd go by his shop and scope it out before deciding to bring your bike in. There's absolutely nothing wrong with stopping by and checking out what type of business he's doing. Heck, he'll probably respect you for it. Although I'll tell you what, most of the best mechanics I've come across worked in some of the filthiest shops I've seen.

But then you get idiots who work in chitholes, too.... so that makes it difficult..
Seems like the best way to tell is by word of mouth, and talking to the mechanic. You can usually tell pretty quick if a "mechanic" is really just a clown disguised as a mechanic.... lol..
I would just do the work myself.
