RE: gel battery
wow, 2 months!, Thats' awesome. You make it sound like a good thing. I havn't charged my battery since I bought it new with the bike a year ago and I havn't had a single issue with it yet. If your having problems with keeping your battery charged, maybe you should invest on a kick start. The problem is not the battery...

RE: gel battery
One facet of regular lead-acid batteries that often gets overlooked is the fact that they don't like being deep-cycled. If they are repeatedly and agressively discharged and recharged, their lifespan is shortened dramatically. If they are allowed to go dead and sit that way for any length of time, they are often unusable after that. That's where the Battery Tender comes in; it keeps the battery fully charged when not in use and without overcharging it(which is also very bad). The measured voltage between terminals on a healthy battery will be ~12.5v+. When it drops below 12v, you know it needs some juice.
Lead-acid batteries may seem temperamental and high maintenance, but they really are not.
Gel cells are typically more vibration resistant than their lead-acid counterparts, but I'm not totally sold on the cost:benefit ratio.
