do you have to remove the entire upper cowl to replace a busted front turn signal??

Depends on how it's mounted and aftermarket or OEM.
Just remove it, you'll thank me later.

ok so i went ahead and tried to get it done today but when i removed the cowl i discovered that the replacement signals didnt have the same amound of harnesses coming out of it. I hooked what was there up and it turns out that now the signals do light up however they do not signal when im turning and the dash signals are always on. any idead? all i could think of was trying to unplug it and try the other one since there were two coming from the bike. Sorry if i was a little unclear.

If I recall correctly when I did mine there are 2 factory connectors. One is for the turn signal circuit, and the other is for the running lights. Just grab a test light and probe to find the turn signal one and use it. leave the other plug there.

The CBR wiring uses a 3 wire setup that utilizes a running light. You will only need to use the signal wire and the ground wire. The running light wire will not be used. Green wireis on both sides and then one side hasorange and the other has blue. Whatever is left over is the running light wire that isnt used. At least thats how mine worked on my 02 F4i when installing my Gregg's flushmounts.

when i installed my flushmounts i cut the wires off the old signals (after the connector plug) and used the 2 live wires (i believe 1 is green for run lights and the other is ?? for the signal) and connected them to the 1 live wire from the new signal. Then i connected each ground together.
