just be smart with it and keep in mind it is more than most can handle even with years behind them. If you have control and keep this in mind you will be fine

I was riding a Kawasaki250R over the weekend and I don't quite understand why people advise you to start on it first before going to a 600. I know there's a huge difference between a 250 and a 600, but I feel that I seem to have picked up some bad habits on the 250 that would get me in trouble on a 600. The biggest would be the fact that you really have the rev a 250r up to get anything out of it. If a do that on a 600 I'm a goner. I also don't understand why people bash the 250 so much. It's not as fast as other bikes, but it's still beating 99% of the cars on the road.

like I said in another thread debating this. Did you start out on a full size bicycle? Or dod you start with a tricycle n move up?? Same principle. Learn the basics n build a good foundation on something smaller and slower bike and you will be a better rider. None of the racers jumped right on a 600+ and became what they are today. So people that think they can skip steps n be a great rider so hinder theirselves. Can it be done yes. Has it beeen done yes. And it will continue.

I started on a 250 and now I want to move up. I still enjoy the 250 though. I've ridden a 600 and I realize that iut's a different beast. I realize that I can't get on the throttle like the 250 and it's hella faster.

Sounds like the 600 is what you need. I am actually surprised that you are not looking at a 750 considering your weight.I would go for the750 if I were you (and you are not fixed on a honda). You have plenty of experiece anddon't seem like you will ride out of your ability so I wouldn't worry that it is too much bike for you. It is more about the rider than the bike anyhow.

I also took the MSF course and ended up buying an '05 F4i as my first bike. It was great for me to learn on ( even with no prior motorcycle experience), the only way it'll get you into trouble is if you take it past your limits. Start slow and push yourself as you feel riding is second nature, it sounds like you will do just fine with bump up to a 600.

Hope the input helps your decision to go with an F4i : )

I think you are absolutely ready for a 600cc upgrade given you've had time on the 250 and your a big guy. Im surprised no one has recommended you to start on the 600RR instead but i think that's better than the F4i (i'm not dissing the F4i in any way, its a great bike). The 600RR is my first bike, no previous riding experience, just took the MSF and practiced like a monk. i'm 5'10 and 180lbs, and in some ways i still think the RR is slow but i'm just a speed freak by nature. in reality its plenty fast as it is especially the 07RR. if you are happy with the F4i or SV650, then those are great bikes to upgrade. you don't have to listen to my stupid advice.

I would also recommend the GSXR750, but it might be a bit powerful for you if you only do average daily commutes.

sit on and see if you can test ride all the bikes mentioned above. before coming to a conclusion. you head seems to be in the right place and you know that the power is there but you dont always have to use it. but you havethe good riding fundamentals down already. ride safe.
