A good beginner bike?
hey everyone...my lil bro just turne 18 and wants to start riding. I mean we both have ridden dirtbikes our whole lives and he wants to take it to the street. I would like to see him on a 600 to start. I am helpin him out money wise a lil bit and we are lookin to keep it under a grand, so any good suggestions of an older 600 sportbike for him to start on?? I mean we really dunt care if its a honda or not just in case if he lays it down or ne thing else happens, its not a big loss. Thanks a lot guys

Nothing in the 2000+ line of 600 supersports, not that you'd find one in your price range regardless. A nice starter bike that someone could grow into instead of out of is a YZF600R (not r6), its a 600 sportbikish but slightly detuned, and has a nice look to it. For his age he'd be better off with a 500 twin though instead of anything with an inline four in it. GS500f, ninja250 or 500 etc. For under a grand your best bet would be a ninja 250 oldschool. Chances of finding anything in the cbr "f" line for less than 2k might be kinda hard.

My first was a '96 600 F3, and I really wish it wasn't. It's WAY too much bike for someone who had no more riding experience than the MSF course provides. I only got it because it was practically handed to me for a song and a dance. I ended up laying it down twice in the first 2 weeks of riding, injuring myself the second time and messing the bike up, and both times it was at speeds < 5 MPH. The second time was due to equipment malfuntion, but I was to green to recognize it, and a lighter-duty bike wouldn't have layed out like that when I tried to compensate.
Def get something under 500, the bikes thegreenbandit listed are the highest I would personally go, looking back, but still good suggestions.
