Default 1000rr good for a beginner?

I am 18 and thinking of getting a sports bike once I turn 19. I'm thinking of either a 1000rr or a 03 954rr which would be better for a beginner and which is faster?

If you want a beginner bike and want a Honda, try the F4i or 600RR....the 1000RR is no where for you to learn. Just MHO

uuummm.....I hope you're just joking but if not,I would recommend going with the 600rr or the f4i if you want to live long enough to enjoy riding.I got the 02' f4i as my first bike and that's almost too fast for a beginner.I would also recommend taking the riders course.

Do yourself a favor and buy a 600 whatever...

If you grab onto a 1000rr and your not ready? You will know the meaning of BEING a skid mark...

Rules for new riders:
600cc = Would like to kill you... Do something stupid and it might do it..
1000cc = WANTS to kill you... Do something stupid and IT WILL KILL YOU!
1300cc = Your a DEAD MAN RIDING.. No brainer, just buying the bike as you first ride was stupid enough...

Food for thought....

I think a liter bike is a great idea for a newbie. Make sure you don't bring your crack pipe on the first run though. Would not want you to end up in jail right out of the hospital.

Always better to learn on something that isn't worth very much. Odds are, it isn't IF you drop it, but when. Learn on something small and cheap, might not be as cool, but it'll keep you alive longer.
I'm a little disconcerned that Sport Rider and Motorcycle USA, when testing the liter bikers, hoke and call The CBR 'a liter bike for beginners.' As the big bikes go, it is the slowest, but who will use all that performance on the street. If you do, I want to see you're racing license!! It's a death machine for anyone who doesn't respect the power.
I've seen way too many kids buy a superbike as the first bike and wipe out bad.
Buy whatever you want, but I will pretty much guarantee you won't be able to handle the power.
My two cents.
Good Luck!!!

to answer your question, the 1000rr is faster, but it is also a better handling bike. As far as for your first bike...yeah alot of people recommend 600's for beginners, but it also depends on the person. i mean it doesnt matter if you are riding a 600 or a 1300 its still only going to go as fast as you twist the throttle and make it. Any motorcycle is dangerous no matter what the displacement, you still have to use your own good judgement and common sense. my first bike was the 04 cbr 1000rr and to date i have had no mishaps...thank god. so ultimately it all comes down to your level of maturity.

Have you checked into insurance yet? The cost alone might cause you to go with a 600. I know being 19 you are going to pay big big big to insure a 1000. I am 36 and only pay $36 a month for my 05 600RR. I asked about the 1000 and it was only $38 a month. When you hear how much yours is going to cost you will have something to look forward to when you get "old" like me.

Oh, dont listen to these old farts, just go get the big boy. You know yourself better than anyone anyways, my rule of thumb is: If you can hold the bike up with one foot on the ground and the other one is just barely over the other side of the seat, you should be fine. I mean if you convert the cc's into cubic inches its still only about half the size of a neon's motor.
Nevermind all of the other people that crash for making this grave "mistake". You should be fine on this one, and it goes really fast too, you will be sooo much cooler on a 1000rr.

P.S.-
I second Chainstretchers motion to delete fishermen from the forum.
