Thats exactly what I am doing if my buddy cant weld it. Drill straight through the casing through the journal hole. Tap the whole, shave the threads off a bolt until it fits perfectly inside of the pin. Replace cover. There should then be plenty of support. Im going to make sure the bolt goes all the way into the cover.
25 dollar fix + several hours of your time. VS. new egine case + much more of your time. The side of the case and the bolt will provide more support than the origional journal.
Also, pull your oil pan and clean out the metal shavings in it. Buy some cheap oil, run it through the bike for 20-30 minutes (bump starting it obviously with the starter clutch removed) change the oil again to make sure u get the insides clean. I did all this yesterday. Gonna tap that **** within the week if my buddy cant weld it. Ill put up pictures and let you know how it goes.
