Electrical problems
I have been working on my bike have come into a problem. I have just replaced the R/R and Battery within the last week. All is good with that stuff. I'm afraid that it seems that the battery isn't getting recharged by the charging system. I could be wrong but what makes me come to believe that is when I have the bike running good and well, even at operating temp. If I disconnect the positive cable from the battery, the bike will continue to run...but very poorly, sounds like its just near death and cannot rev the bike at all, barely idles. Connect the cable again to the battery and works fine. Could this be my stator? Any help would be much appreciated.
i would expect the opposite, they dont charge at idle. to check to stator: the three pins should have continuity between them, and no continuity from each pin to ground. anything not like it should be, means bad stator.
Between 13-15 VDC is good. Anything over or under & you have charging problems.
Another way to check for a grounded stator is to use a test light. Connect the clamp lead to the (+) positive battery terminal & touch the 3 pins coming out of the stator. If the light comes on, the stator is grounded & bad. If is doesn't light then check AC output & continuity with a meter. They don't teach that, just something I have come up with over the years & yeah...it works.
Not necessarily...depends if it is a Y wound stator or a Delta wound stator.
